Well we all know this has been a GREAT offseason (more to come I'm sure)!I'm just wondering how great you really think it is...

-The Best! (which one came close)
-One of the Best. (which one is better)
    -Average
    -Horrible! (why?)

I can't go to farrr back becuase im only 24 but the only one that comes to mind better than this is the Charles Barkley offseason. That was prettty crazzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzy, at the time! I'm gona have to go with "One of the Best."

my favorite off-season is when we got T-mac, juwan, reece gaines, tyronn lue, charlie ward, bob sura..etc

plus 51 wins in the season wasn't bad

No, that would be the summer the year after the Sampson pick... 1984.

Exactly. We didn't just draft Hakeem, so it ain't the best. Not close.

As far as value recieved compared to value lost, this is way up there. Barkley may have been the single biggest offseason acquisition, but the Rockets did have to give up Horry and Cassell for him. Willis was a HUGE pickup, and Brent Price would have been had injuries not riddled the remainder of his career.

1998 was a pretty good year too (on paper) with Pippen, Antoine Carr, and draft picks Dickerson and Mobley (though Turk and Drew turned out to be busts), but this is essentially at the cost of Drexler, Mario Elie, and Kevin Willis.

Not going to consider high lottery picks like Hakeem, Sampson, and Yao... They are given as a consolation prize for sucking the year before and you almost have to be an idiot not to pick up a quality player that high (though it does seem to happen fairly regularly...).

I would say this is the biggest off-season I can ever recall.

Never has a team been so utterly upgraded in such a short period.

Picking up Hakeem was a big thing, but this is just insane. Review what has happened....

    Luis Scola
    Mike James
    Steve Francis

Not to mention resigning Wells and that this Brooks fellow looks like he might actually be able to contribute.

What's amazing is that we're adding this to a team that had the 4th best record. Never could I have envisioned such an altering off-season.

I figured if we got Francis that would be a great off-season. But add this Scola fellow too? Holy moly. I don't think anyone can be doubtful of next season now. I mean, we still could use another 4 to be sure, but I won't be shocked if we get someone like Marcus Camby.

Guys, if this Luis Scola fellow is the real thing....we are contenders.

Potentially, one of the best (...potentially...). ;)

The obvious best (although) was the year we won the coin flip for Olajuwon, even though the big-time payoff wasn't for quite a few years (early Boston series aside).

The year we got Barkley (wasn't that off season?) probably put the Rockets as close to again being legitimate championship contenders as we've seen. True, it didn't come to pass, but the talent was certainly assembled and the team was awfully close.

My favorite move (OK, not off-season) was reuniting Drexler and Olajuwon. The fact that it led to a championship did a lot to alleviate the dull ache of U of H and NC State so many years before... ;)

I agree. The Dream was and will always be the best offseason move. Proof is what hangs down from the rafters @ Toyota Center.

That really wasn't an offseason move as much as an offseason no-brainer pick.

But outside of drafting Dream, nothing tops what happened in the last three weeks.

It's not the best, in terms of how much more I think we've improved. Discounting our #1 picks, I still think the T-Mac offseason was better. By that time, I was thoroughly sick of Steve Francis and all our deadweight contracts, and was wondering if the Rockets would ever be a contender again in the near future. With that one trade, the Rockets made a believer out of me that we have at least hope of contending again.

This offseason was more surprising than anything else. Armed with just a MLE and a bunch of scrubs surrounding Yao/T-Mac/Battier, I would've never dreamed we can add 4 impact players to last year's rotation in Bonzi, Francis, Scola, and James. All for just the cost of Juwan Howard.

I am partial to the summer of 2005. The Rockets sign Stromile Swift and Derek Anderson...j/k.

This is definitely one of the best off seasons ever. The Scola trade was just pure genius. The Francis signing was a little bit of luck.

I cant wait for basketball to start. For the time being, I will watch my beloved stros.

Well, the offseason we drafted Hakeem was clearly the best we've had. :)

Getting Yao and getting T-Mac are both way up there, too.

But I see what you mean... as far as sheer quantity of good moves, the sheer quantity of "something-for-nothing" acquisitions, this one may be at the top...

I say one of the best offseason...

IMO, the best offseason should be the one after we won the 1st championship.. We were the official winner of that offseason..

And who had a big role in Clyde becoming an 10 time All Star, going to the Finals twice and losing MVP to Jordan, who's Bulls defeated Portland in the Finals that season? Our new coach.
