It's been kind of a down year for movies, imo. Many of the summer blockequals fell flat (spiderman, pirates, shrek, etc.). I'm still waiting to catch a few on dvd, but the exception of the bourne and apatow movies of the summer I've been pretty disappointed with what i've seen. Fall marks the beginning of more high quality far that i'm more excited about. I just saw Michael Clayton this weekend and i'd have to say that it probably the best movie i've seen this year. Good acting, good writing and a nice plot driven movie. I think Clooney's has turned into one of the most interesting actors to watch in hollywood. His resume is really unconventional for a glam movie star. It seems that recently his been using his pull to do the type of movies that interest him. In a world of comic book sequels and remakes i'm glad his using his power to develop movies like Clayton, Syriana, and the Good German. Best Movie Michael Clayton. The director is the same guy that penned the Bourne movies which coincidentally is what Clayton just beat out in my list. Honorable mention Bourne 3 Knocked Up Superbad Hot Fuzz Zodiac The Lookout Shoot em Up (i'm sure i'm forgetting others) Good movies you might not have heard of Starter for Ten. A British coming of age comedy revolving around a guy entering his freshman year of college. Stars the guy from the Last King of Scotland. Just out on video. It's a little hard to find. I had look for it at 4 different hollywood/blockbuster stores before i found one that had it. It was worth the effort. so if you have a netflix account or are close to store that has it, I would check it out. Movies i missed or am looking forward to seeing Sunshine Die Hard 4 Oceans 13 Waitress Into the Wild Gone Baby Gone American Gangster Before the Devil Knows your Dead No Country For Old Men. McCarthy's books have never been translated very well to the screen. I'm hopeful the Coen Brothers will get this one right. Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium. Ok not very interested in this one, but i'll watch anything with Natalie Portman in it.
As I said in the thread I made over the weekend, Into the Wild is one of the best movies I've ever seen. So, that's my answer.
i'm shocked that not a single person paid tribute by starting a thread in honor of The Heart break kid. It was the best comedy i've seen all year
Completely Agree. Also, although it came out a while back, I just saw Reign Over Me on video. I'm not usually into gut-wrenchers, but that was a good movie. Adam Sandler was really good in it.
Stardust Tyler Perry's Why Did I Get Married The first one, believe it or not, is a great date movie (as well as one to see with the wife - just if you want to get into a romantic mood). The second one is a movie that all married couples should see.
Oh, yea i heard really great thing about this. I'm normally not into musicals, but i'm looking forward to this on video
Stardust was very good. very-princess brideish. Never watched any of the Tyler Perry movies. For some reason just have no desire to see them.
It was pretty good. Nothing new or original, but still pretty funny. Loved Jerry Stiller's character. It was funny to hear Frank Costanza dropping p-bombs.
