Bought a 130dollar desktop, Dell Optiplex 270 and I'm planning to install a linux OS. Do you guys know the best FREE linux software? Big thanks.
Ubuntu is probably the most popular choice out right now. I've never used it, but it is based loosely on Debian, which is a good thing. Fedora Core is also nice, or used to be. It's been a couple of years since I had a Linux box, but those guys used to put out really nice stuff.
OpenSuse is pretty good too. Ubuntu has the most internet support in the form of forums if you need help. I'd start with Ubuntu, learn about other options and go from there.
I recommend DarnSmallLinux ... ~50 MB OS means more space for pr0n! I am kidding, of course, but it's DAMN SMALL. [that's what she said - MGS ] I don't know a desktop-type Linux other than RedHat's versions, but if you want to go ES or AS, I recommend RedHat/Fedora.
I'm not going to pretend to be an expert on Linux, but Linspire is pretty easy to use. Also an Ubuntu based distribution.
