3. She blinded me with Science- Thomas Dolby 2. Axel F.- Harold Faltemeyer 1. Rock It- Herbie Hancock I know keyboard solos are kittys campared to guitars, but they need love too.
Didn't you just name pretty much the only 3 keyboard solos in history? Er.... nevermind. Eddie Van Halen in Jump, only because he used to be so damn cool... I'll Wait was awesome keyboarding, but off the top of my pointy head, I can't recall if there was a KB solo. There was a guitar solo in that, so I nominate that as the best guitar solo by a guy also playing the keyboards in the same song.
I would like to make some nominations for a few categories that are quite often overlooked, but still need representation... Top Use Of A Bullwhip In A Song... "Whip It" - Devo Top Use Of A Chainsaw In A Song... "The Lumberjack" - Jackyl Top Use Of A Cheesy Early 80's Wristwatch Alarm That Always Makes My Wife Think It's Our Cell Phone Ringing In The Middle Of The Song... "Rock The Casbah" - The Clash Thank you...drive through!
final countdown by Europe. Man that whole songs rocks, and the keyboard only heightens its rockingness
I'm pretty sure the organ solo in "Light My Fire" by The Doors was done on a keyboard and not a REAL organ...
Frankenstein - Edgar Winter Group Lucky Man - Emerson, Lake and Palmer Hocus Pocus - Focus (great guitar solo, too) Lee Michaels had some pretty good solos, too.
Jimmy Smith-"Some of My Best Friends Are Blues" Edgar Winter-"Frankenstein" You can watch the Edgar Winter Group perform "Frankenstein" on the Midnight Special from 1974: http://edgar.thevine.net/edgartv.htm
B* That's the first song that came to my mind. I saw him and his brother, Johnny, do this in an out door concert. I feared to mention this song because EW has my birth date and I mentioned it in that thread. But, RICK WAKEMAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!! is the man! YES YES YES YES YES RR ps. thanks for the link...I'm listening to it now...good memories.
Both Jan Hammer and Joe Zawinul are badass keyboard players, but I couldn't name any particular solo of theirs that I really like. Herbie Hancock's playing on Miles Davis' Jack Johnson is pretty cool too, although not a solo in the strict sense. The keyboard in Lucky Man is just Emerson screwing around - I wouldn't call it a solo. Edit: Add the Moog solo in La Femme d'Argent by Air. Not very complicated, but nice and melodic. Led Zepellin's All of My Love has a nice solo too.
