I was wondering if anyone here has visited and if so, which hotel did you stay at? I'm looking for a hotel around $300/night around either the SoHo area or Time Square. I stayed at the Holiday Inn in SoHo a couple years back but didn't want to pay that much this time around. thanks!
My wife and I stayed at the Hotel Metro a couple of years ago. It's just down the street from Macy's and within walking distance of Times Square. We made that journey at night and never felt unsafe as there were plenty of other people walking around as well. I wouldn't say this was the best hotel but it is one of the last independents. It had a nice art deco theme and seemed to be very popular with Europeans. The rooms were very small. Hotel Metro NYC It certainly is not the best but it's not bad. Probably not what you want if luxury is your main goal or you plan to hang out at your hotel but it's a nice place to stay for a long weekend.
I really like the Mansfield on 44th Street. The rooms are small, but nice, and the staff is really nice and helpful. When I stayed on a long weekend 2 years ago, it was like $225/night. The advertised price has gone up significantly, but I'd bet that you could get it cheaper.
I stayed at the W Times Square when I was in New York to propose to my then girlfriend. It's a little steep even with the specials the W is running (Fab Rate). It was pretty much right in the middle of everything, and the bar downstairs was pretty cool.
My wife works in NYC a lot. I asked her and her reply is below. An interesting hotel is the “New Yorker” which is owned by Sheraton. It is right across the street from Madison Square garden. The Marriott by the World Trade center had a special a few months ago for less than $200 night because of the extensive construction at Ground Zero. If you look at Travelocity on-line you could probably find a nice hotel in the area. Time Square is going to be extremely expensive, but they have in the area a Residence Inn, Ramada, Comfort Inn Midtown, Howard Johnson, Super 8. If you can find something a block or two toward Rockefeller center, the price is a bit cheaper and still safe. SoHo are is pretty big, but there is an Embassy Suites on the west side and on the east side there is a best-western seaport. This area is a really nice and safe old part of Manhattan with easy subway access. Have fun
Awesome! Thanks for the advice! We went with the Comfort Inn Midtown! Still a little pricey but it's like 0.3 miles away from time square!
Just go to the Plaza Hotel, it's a landmark in New York. but I stayed at the Millennium Hilton right next to Ground Zero and the room was pretty sweet, huge panoramic windows that allowed you to see everything, nice 42 inch plasma.
best hotel in new york: the library. breakfast. wine and cheese @ 5pm. AFI top 100 DVD's. very european atmosphere. Great location. Great room (get one of the smaller suites). second best hotel: London NYC
I saw a show on the Travel Channel about a McDonalds in New York where it's like a classy place and stuff. They play piano and have waiters. You should definitely stop by while you're there.
I always stay in/near Times Square when I'm in NYC (my company's HQ is in Times Square), and my favorite is The Bryant Park Hotel. It's sort of a fashion-oriented hotel, they have fashion shows in one of the rooms downstairs, fashion models and designers stay there . . . it's VERY trendy. They've got red-leather with a red light in the elevator. It's like being in a club. The rooms are fantastic -- great bathroom, etc., flat-panel TV, Bose iPod system . . . there's a cool bar in the basement, too. It's only like two blocks away from Times Square -- I stay there whenever I can.
Ive stayed here before: http://www.hudsonhotel.com/ It has a nice club inside too. Fat Joe and WuTang were there.....too bad I hate rap. They were nice guys though.
I stayed at the Wellington Hotel on 57th at 8th. It is a few blocks from Central Park and a comfortable walk to Times Square. It was about $300 a night. The room was not spectacular, but you don't spend much time there anyway.
