    Hey guys,

Bit of a vain topic! Just wondering what hair gels you guys use - am getting a bit fed up with mine. Looking to buy some serious stuff online... with major hold but without the slick wet look. Any suggestions? What do you guys use?

I've tried out the "LA Looks" brand, that didn't really work for me, it flaked too easily. Right now I'm on some cheap ass "La Bella" brand........I like it though, it works pretty nice. The Crew Pomade I tried didn't really amaze me that much cuz it just felt as if my hair was dried gel instead of shiny mettallic looking short spikes, which is what I'm going for.

I've used Vavoom forming gel for about 14-15 years now, and never looked back. It used to be only in salons I think, but it's been over-the-counter now for the past few years.

I'm more of a manipulator kind of guy - the stuff doesn't dry/harden, so you can change your style throughout the day, but it isn't slick and wet either. I suggest bedhead.

Paul Mitchell stuff is pretty decent, as mentioned above.

Gel bad. Permanent wet look bad. Hard hair bad. I use Infusium Leave-in Treatment & occasionally some Paul Mitchell Foaming Pomade.

Depending on the look you aspire, you may wish to avoid gel. I would generally steer you in the direction of Bumble and Bumble's styling creme, along with a few streams of surf spray, post application. Although, arranging a consultation with a professional would be my suggestion. Entrusting a stylist with power of attorney is a decision that backbones the entire Wakefield's clubhouse.

    :)

and of course for information on those fine and dandy recommended hair care products...

    bumble and bumble

You guys know that if you comb it after it dries, it doesn't look wet anymore, right?

I use the bed-head wax stick. Works excellent for spiking hair up and doesn't look wet or hard like gel.

    ICE Spiker Styling Glue

I use it every day. Truly the best (if you spike your hair, that is).

Hair gel is so 1980's, or so says the Queer Eye Guys...

I've been using Paul Mitchell Sculpting Lotion and Freeze Spray since 1985...It works and I never changed...

Those guys are great. If they write a book, I'm buying it. Watching that show the other day made me realize that I am indeed a slob.

    hey guys,

Thanks a lot for your help. I realise that I should have used another word other than gel, as I wasn't necessarily meaning that alone. I generally use a mixture of wax and ultra hold gel. Gel for the extra hold and wax for texture and general shape. I've just been unlucky in finding one that doesn't give me a wet look BUT does give me the hold. I might try some of the stuff you just posted, Mr. Mooch.
