Went and saw the mars volta play last night. before, i thought omar (lead guitarist) was great, but after last night he is without a doubt the best guitarist out right now. his solos are endless and his energy while playing mimics the energy of his music. awesome show last night.
all these are great guitarist... BUT, nobody is even on omar's level. he is just in another world. thats what is great about him... santana is amazing. well his early work was

I would have to vote for the thadeus. When he doesn't have an amp, he just plugs the cord right into his butt and his whole body is then louder than a big Marshall stack. I'm not kidding.
I agree Omar is the best and most creative guitarist right now. I missed them lastnight, but its all good cause i'll be at meshuggah on Friday!!
I saw them here in Houston and Boulder before. I agree that Omar's energy and guitar playing is addicting. Both shows that I saw were great. I have some great pics from the Boulder show. The Mars Volta are awesome.
are you talking about music or technic? music is up to your own taste. a lot people find mars volta music not so good. as for techinic, there are tons of people out there better. some are better at both, steve vai, joe satriani, buckethead... etc.
That must be news to Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page, David Gilmour, Alex Lifeson, Brian May, Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, etc....
I can't find the other thread, but find this one really interesting, as a lot of guitarists (EVH etc..) are still amazing but not where they were in their prime. In no particular order EVH and Bucket probably appeal the most to me, but Vai is the most technically skilled? Please refrain from mentioning satanists like Alexi Laiho etc..
