This has been discussed some in past threads so I apologize, but I can't find one since "The Dump" on I-45 opened. I'm just curious what some of the best experiences you have had are in Houston for furniture. I'm looking for a very nice leather couch set and kitchen table/chairs. I'm also looking for a bunk bed. I've looked this past week at "The Dump" and at Gallery Furniture. "The Dump" is only open on weekends and claims to discount quality stuff more than any other (hard to tell). They also claim to have only high-end leather furniture living room sets (seeing a lot of "Leather Trend"), but prices there range from $3500-$5000 for couch/loveseat/chair. Gallery's range from $2000-$3000, with ottoman. I can't really tell though if I'm seeing lower quality furniture or if Gallery really has better prices. "The Dump" uses a third-party service for delivery and it's expensive... they recommend you pick it up yourself. Gallery does same-day delivery. Huge advantage to Gallery, but if I was getting better quality stuff/deal, I'd pick it up myself. Has anyone had experiences at these places or would you recommend others for quality furniture?
Storehouse Clearance center on Fondren, as well as a number of other furniture stores on Fondren. Storehouse is hands down the best deal in town.
Room Furniture Store seems to have pretty good deals. Finger's has deals too if you can catch them on a sale. Montgomery Ward's use to have VERY good deals on furniture, but I don't think they are around anymore.
I bought our mattress, king size bed set with two side tables, and kitchen table from Fingers. Got all three with three years 0% interest.
Surprisingly, Foley's furniture is good quality and has a good price. If it not too much of a drive check out their big showroom at the Woodlands mall.
it really is a matter of the priority you put on aesthetics. i'm willing to spend more to get something i really like. especially something like furniture, you'll be living with this stuff for a long time. if it's for the short term, there is no way you can beat ikea.
Is furniture cheaper online? I'm looking for a microfiber couch for less than $500... Clutch, if you live on the NW side, check out a place called Lo's Art & Furniture on 249 and Antoine.
Yeah, or if you have 10 cats in your house that destroy virtually everything that enters the doorway.
i'm dying to get a new couch and willing to spend some bucks, however, i've got two little boys who consider the couch a jungle gym. i think i'll wait a bit.
My wife's boss calls them "Design Just out of Reach" and he makes a lot of money. They do have outstanding modern furniture, though. All based on museum-quality design and from solid manufacturers. Just don't buy any Gehry chairs.
Damn ... thanks for the quick help guys. I'll definitely look in to these suggestions - I may in fact swing by one of them today and probably the others this weekend. Thanks again. Design Within Reach is probably out of my reach, but I do want to get a quality set. It's an important room - some call it the living room, I call it I'm-watching-the-damn-game room. I know what I like visually, but hard to tell (with the wide range of prices and high markups I'm sure) what is quality material/construction.
If you want some very good deals, go to this place called "Affordable Furniture" off I-45. I forgot exactly where it was, but they had some of the best deals. We got this very nice brand new upholstery sofa with love seat with wood trim for $900 AFTER tax AND delivery. Their sale price was $1100, but I got the guy to agree to my terms after I walked out of the store. The quality isn't top of the line, but it works fine for me and I can't really tell anyway.
I've had good success at Fingers when I was in Houston...They have the bargain basement to look through as well...In Dallas, I've tried Freed's and its the same concept...Good Luck...

Hilton Furniture. Those guys know how to wheel and deal. If you go in there and give them a decent offer and let them know that you're not afraid to walk out they'll hook you up. My family and I have been buying from him for years... plus, he's a huge Rox fan.
I agree w/Svpernaut's recommendation of Hilton Furniture off of 45S (near Almeda Mall). I bought my king size bedframe from them and was able to negotiate down $300 from the tagged price (paid in cash). Plus you'll be supporting a fellow Rockets fan!
