How many of y'all have or have ever had a best friend of the opposite sex? One of my best friends is a girl and she probably knows me better than anyone else. So I'm just wondering how common it is.

By friend I really do mean just a friend - no benefits involved ;). It seems like today's culture promotes the idea that men and women rarely become close unless there is a romantic aspect to the relationship. What do you guys think about all this?

Yeah I did recently...it started out as "best friends", but that didn't last without going further.

For me, a heterosexual guy and a girl can never be "best friends".

My girlfriend is my best friend. Who else would laugh at me drunkenly pissing on the bedroom floor--and clean it up--not my other "best friend", a dude, that's for sure.

True, all it took was one night out as "friends" then it was more than friends and in the end it was friends no more. :(

My guy is my best friend. I relate to him more than anyone. He would probably be my best friend even if we weren't together. That said, i personally dont think its possible to have such an involved friendship (such as best friend) platonically. There is eventually some sort of sexual tension. You either go with it or you distance yourself. Its possible to have close friends of the opposite gender, but not a best friend imho.

I have two girls that I been best friends with for quite sometime.

I made it work. They are both beautiful too, yet I never really had any physical attraction to them. Perhaps I just saw them more as sisters (since I grew up with no siblings).

I can't see myself being BEST FRIENDS with a girl that I'm not in love with.

And the only way I have ever successfully had a platonic friendship with a girl is when A) I don't find her the least bit attractive, or B) I've already ****ed her.

Otherwise, the thoughts of "what if?" and "why not?" never go away.

I'm in the same boat as you. Since it didn't go further I've focused my attention more on hanging with the boys and chasin new tail.

I was about to blast you until I saw "j/k". It is a legit question and just to make sure everybody knows, yes I am straight.

Yeah, because you know me so well, right?!

Just because I was crude in a message board post doesn't mean I objectify women or just see them as a place to store my dick. Personally I don't know many 25 year old "scum" that can still count their sexual partners on one hand.

    Do you?

If that's the case, you might want to double check.

My best friend was of the opposite sex. A girl I met in college.

Then I married her. Twelve years and one week ago.

We've had "benefits" for twelve years and one week.

Before that we were just best friends.
