I'm not originally from Houston so I don't have a lot of knowledge but who are the best former high school players to make it in the NBA? I was thinking of this last night while watching TJ Ford play. I'm going to go out on a limb and say he has the potential to be the best point guard to ever come out of Houston. I love watching him play. Btw, what happened to his braids? Are they going out of style now? Does former Bellaire star, now UConn star, Emeka Okafor have the potential to be the best center from Houston some day? I used to think George Williams would be one of the best out of here but now I'm not so sure. I'm also putting Clyde Drexler and Rashard Lewis on that list. Again, I don't have the history knowledge of most of you here so set me straight if I'm wrong.
Well I don't follow much high school ball now but back in the day I remember this guy named LaBradford Smith who dominated high school ball in this area and was going to be the next big thing someday. I think he went to Louisville and might have played a little in the NBA but definitely no superstar. Tito Horford was another guy who was a great high school player but I dunno if he made the pros.
Being a Louisville fan I remember LaBradford quite will. What a vertical. He was from Bay City...not exactly Houston. He never made a name for himself in the NBA so I wouldn't put him on my list. Kendrick Perkins could be one to watch from Beaumont but again that's not really Houston or surrounding counties.
Daniel Ewing seems to be doing pretty well at Duke. Jake Voskuhl.....ummmm Alton Ford. I'm reaching here. There just isn't a whole lot of bball talent from Houston.
Greg Kite Robert Williams Rashard Lewis Charles "Tex" Harrison- Harlem Globetrotters Ricky Winslow Slater Martin Dwight Jones
Tito Horford, I believe went to Marion Christian? He did play in the NBA w/ Milwaukee. He played for LSU and Miami in college He may have played for a few more teams, but Im not sure. Last I heard, this guy is playing in a BBall league in the Dominican. He actually has a son in high school who is a hot college prospect. Supposed to be a big strong kid.
i saw LaBradford Smith face off against Larry Johnson at the Whataburger All Star Game Slam Dunk Competition back in the late' 80's...absolutely unbelievable! LaBradford did make it to the NBA if I remember right....not sure why his game didn't develop further...
