What band or artist had the best debut album in your opinion.

    The Cars
    Boston
    Jimi Hendrix
The Beatles (recorded in 12 hours)
Guns & Roses (Appetite for Destruction)

All are awesome, but my all-time favorite which will never be topped is:

Out of the group you listed, Bob, I would have to go with the Cars but Boston is a close 2nd. I have all those albums you listed except for G n R and Bad Company.

This is a tough question, but here are the ones I will say:

"The Stone Roses" - The Stone Roses
    "Definitely Maybe" - Oasis
    "Parachutes" - Coldplay
    "Roxy Music" - Roxy Music
    "Ten" - Pearl Jam
    "Boston" - Boston
    "The Cars" - The Cars
    "The Smiths" - The Smiths
    "Black Sabbath" - Black Sabbath
    "Murmur" - REM
"Pretty Hate Machine" - Nine Inch Nails
    "Gish" - Smashing Pumpkins
"The Piper at the Gates of Dawn" - Pink Floyd
"In the Court of the Crimson King" - King Crimson
    "Unknown Pleasures" - Joy Division
"Licensed to Ill" - Beastie Boys
"Are You Experienced" - Jimi Hendrix Experience
"Led Zeppelin I" - Led Zeppelin

I have a lot of other debuts, but I tried to pick debuts that are also considered classic albums.

Ok, first, You MUSt go out and purchase Bad Co. I dont respect anyone that doesn't own that album, sorry, it's the way I feel. G n R must be your next purchase. Are you seriously buying Cheap Trick Albums instead of these? Don't wanna hurt your feelings, but you need direction on quality music ;)

The purpose of this thread was not to pick the popular debut albums, but YOUR favorite debut albums. I love hearing about bands/artists that I have never heard before.

Uh, I will NEVER buy anything that has that assflute W. Axyl Rose singing on it. Sorry but he just annoys me to no end. As for Bad Company, I will probably eventually get into them (as I have gotten into everyone else except G n R, LOL) but I got to get some Pretenders stuff first! ;)

And all the albums I listed are ones that I enjoy AND own. :p

But I'll throw out Interpol's "Turn on the Bright Lights" as an album for you to look into, Finn. If you like the Smiths, Joy Division, Talking Heads, and Echo & the Bunnymen, then you will like Interpol.

The songs on "Appetite" are worth listeneing to Axyl, very good debut album. I have Echo and The Bunnymen's first album, I was disappointed.

I love the Pretenders, Very underrated band. I have several Smiths albums but don't enjoy them :(

Anyone have Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers debut album? Thoughts?

Haha, interesting you ask about Tom Petty - I am listening to his greatest hits right now - pretty solid but alas, that is all I own by him as I have never seen myself getting into his albums. :(

Okay, enough of the kid gloves:

One of the best debuts ever and one of my favorites:

"The Clash" - The Clash (both English AND US versions)
