So, we're almost 8 years in, not too early I think to start talking about the best band to come from this decade. Their first album has to have been released no earlier than 1999 to qualify. Only one please, I know that can get hard for some. Some evidence will be necessary to prove your point, IE youtube/daily motion/etc videos. My choice is Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. Though not as popular as some other bands, I think these guys fulfilled what I was expecting when there was all this hype over bands like The Strokes and all the other "The _____" bands that were supposed to be making straightforward rock. limited to the first album being release after '99? i'd have to say linkin park, maybe chevelle? best band of the decade, regardless of when the first album was released? tool. only 2 albums in this decade, but they're both really good.
System of a Down (1998-present) Holy Mountains Spoiler <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/59N24J4nlNY"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/59N24J4nlNY" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object> Boom Spoiler <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/02cACD5nVc8"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/02cACD5nVc8" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object> Soldier Side Spoiler <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/T8YluAMCRT8"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/T8YluAMCRT8" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object> But they're much more than just a political band...
arcade fire liars mars volta nellie mckay the shins polyphonic spree juana molina animal collective (whom i am seeing tomorrow!) sufjan stevens (i am not gay!)
Here are my nominees at the moment. I might add some more before I am able to make a choice for favorite. Franz Ferdinand Interpol The Rakes Maximo Park The Fratellis Of Montreal The Libertines - I'm leaning towards picking this band, but they've been broken up for a long while, so I'm not sure. The Strokes Like I said there are probably more than that, but I just got home and haven't eaten yet, so I can't think too well at the moment.
The Killers Green Day (Though I like their older stuff more) White Stripes Death Cab For Cutie Modest Mouse Incubus The Strokes John Mayer
Death Cab for Cutie Interpol Black Rebel Motorcycle Club I've seen these bands in concert a total of ten times combined, and it will be 11 after next. And I would agree with the Jesus and Mary Chain comment based on BRMC's first album, but they've definitely grown out of that, especially after Howl . Same thing with the Interpol/Joy Division comparisons.
