Disclamer: reading this thread will cause you to crave fajitas for the rest of the day. Does anyone not agree that the fajitas at Lupe Tortillas are the best fajitas created by mankind? Their tortillas are the softest ever and the beef just melts in your mouth. I have never been sure about the best of any type of food as am I am with these, please enlighten me if im way off base here.
They are fantastic, but they lack good grilled onions. I prefer Ninfa's on Navigation's fajitas, but you can't go wrong with Lupe
i have absolutely no problem calling you a moron if you think lupe's over-seasoned meat can even touch Pappasittos carne fajitas.
i have to admit the fajitas race is over and pappasitos easily has the best fajitas its not even close.
My problem with Pappasittos, they don't make authentic flour tortillas, at least the times I have went. They use the rubber tortillas that you can buy from the store. I can't comment on Ninfa's or Lupe's. Do they make authentic flour tortillas?
dude, there's a tortilla-making machine right out in the open at every pappasitos i've ever been to... not sure where you get the "store-bought" notion from. pappasitos lays claim to the best tortillas, fajitas, and salsa imho and their charro beans are fantastic as well.
you kids are livin in the dark ages... el tiempo fajitas are where its at... its like that girl v girl pillow fight that leads to things they will only write about in their diaries...but dipped in butter...and in your mouth
I am in complete agreement with the thread starter..as is my wife. There are no fajitas better in Houston that Lupe's. I don't know about elsewhere...but honestly, nothing even feels like a close second.
I know it's not very hip to list chains, but I have to agree that Pappasito's beef fajitas are gifts from heaven. They are just about perfect. The chicken ones are OK but not as good as the beef, IMO. Pappasito's tortillas are OK, but if you mixed their fajitas with Los Cucos's flour tortillas, I would literally eat there 7 nights a week. I never understand why Los Cucos never gets any love on this website.
Since we are talking about best fajitas ever - I highly recommend going to Bigo's or Los Portales in Matamoros (30 mins from South Padre) if you are ever in the area. It will change your whole idea of fajitas.
I agree the charro beans are the great. They make tortillas like HEB Bakery and Taco Cabana, not really authentic. The times I went the tortillas weren't even better than Taco Cabana. They tasted rubbery and not authentic. I want someone back there rolling tortillas with a roller, now that's authentic not a machine.
i put el tiempo just behind pappasitos, but they use the same philosophy that the carne fajitas are all about the quality of the meat, not the seasoning (which is the philosophy that lupe adheres to).
I gotta go with Pappasitos. Lupe's are good, but I hate that they don't give you grilled onions or peppers. And what is the point of the grilled jalepeno they substitute instead? That thing is death! Hottest damn jalepenos I've ever had. I took a chaw of one a few months ago, and I couldn't speak for 30 minutes.
Los Cucos' green sauce that they serve with the chips is the best on the planet. Tex-mex plates....not so much. But the tortillas and the green sauce are top notch.
