I usually have something from the freezer/restaurant. If not I hit up House of Pies. If I'm in the mood for Ice Cream, Cold Stone.
House of Pies sucks, at least the location I went to. last week I was at the one on Kirby the Turtle Cheesecake I had was well below what I would consider 'par'...it was like **** you get at the grocery store. no way was it even close to most high-end expensive restaurants (not that those are always good, but it's just a generalization) it's a cool place to hang out late at night with no other options, but if we're only judging it on its desserts, it sucks
Micky D's 2 apple pies for 1 buck is good enough for me and it's cheap.. and they're pretty much in every corner so I'm always close to one.
I'll add Empire Cafe to the list, if you like cake. Katz's has great cheesecake and they're open 24 hours. Need to try Chocolate Bar and Ruggles Bakery.
lol...i call bs. "hey son! there's a thread on clutchfans about peoples favorite dessert places! get over here and look over my shoulder and we'll scroll down and read it together!" p.s.- chocolate bar is overrated.
i like the cheesecake factory. if you like chocolate, the chocolate factory is also really good. you can see the reviews and stuff on www.citysearch.com they have rating and stuff on it.
Chocolate bar grosses me out. I mean I like chocolate but this is only for people who need the stuff like insulin. Ruggles is okay but most of their stuff tends to be slimy. White chocolate bread pudding-slimy, tiramisu- slimy Empire Cafe- i enjoy their stuff. Desert Gallery- Stuff is not good and not worth the price Cheese cake factory- have not had anything there I didnt like Grand Luxe- same as above, all of the stuff is good. Amy's Ice cream is awesome So is Pachugos (spelling) on westpark and Buffalo Speedway. Great Gelato place.
YEah chocolate bar is good. A bit pricey but good. $10 for a slice is nuts. I usually end up sharing. Candylicious nextdoor is pretty cool.
Whoever said Chocolate Bar is overrated obviously does not know what the hell they are talking about. Now the chocolate factory is not that great. But chocolate bar is the ****. Also, another one that is under the radar is Arandas Bakery on bissonet and 59. Some really good tres leches cakes there.
Nobody can beat the French in Desserts, Andre's in River Oaks or Uptown Park have some of the best cakes I've ever had.. I haven't been there in a few months and their website looks to be down, but I'm assuming they are still there..
I'm not a dessert person, but I play one on TV. Chocolate Bar Hank's Ice Cream Andre's House of Boys, er Pies
I don't know if it is a schtick or what, but most of the people I've encountered working at Andres are more rude and uncaring than the actual French in Paris.........their food and sweets, on the other hand..........are not up to Parisan standards. That said, 75% as good as Paris could easily be the best in Houston, so I still find myself going in there once and a while. They have some beautiful stuff at the Chocolate Bar, but everything is so cloyingly sweet...........I can't ever seem to taste anything but sugar.
