I'm going to leave out the jazz because that would take forever! Clapton/ Lenny Kravitz do a nice version (basically a cover of Hendrix's version). Clapton-"I Shot the Sheriff" Robben Ford-Taj Majal-"Rainy Day, Dream Away" Johnson Brothers-"Strawberry Letter 23" (original by Shuggie Otis)
Pretenders/UB40 - I Got You, Babe Dylan - Blue Moon Dylan - The Boxer White Stripes - One More Cup Of Coffee All Hendrix covers of Dylan Worst covers: All non-Hendrix Dylan covers
I've heard a few good Dylan covers by The Band and The Byrds. REM - Pale Blue Eyes Todd Rundgren - Faithful album Good Vibrations Rain Most Likely You Go Your Way and I'll Go Mine If Six Was Nine Strawberry Fields Forever
I listen to country/bluegrass mostly, so I won't bore you with all the great covers in this style of music. I'll go with a contemporary artist. Yes, I said artist. Kelly Osbourne "Papa Don't Preach" I love her version of the song. She rocks!
Actually, Billy Joel did a tremendous cover of "To Make You Feel My Love" on his box set and Eric Clapton did an amazing version of "Born in Time" on the album Pilgrim. I always like Jon Butcher's version of "Like a Rolling Stone." There are others as well. It is a compliment to cover an artist and do it really well.
"Running Out of Fools" -Elvis Costello "Sorrow" -David Bowie "Young Man Blues" -The Who "Every little bit hurts" -The Clash "Delia" -Bob Dylan "Rusty Cage" -Johnny Cash "Not Fade Away" -Rolling Stones "So Sad About Us" -The Breeders "The Man Who Sold the World" -Nirvana
Actually The Byrds version of "Tamborine Man" inspired Dylan to go electric. Clapton's "Born In Time" is pretty good (as is the entire Pilgrim album)
