Welcome to Rockets Fans off Season ... Since a lot of people are starting thread like we are going to sign Kidd, Swift ..whatever... I think it might be interesting to start a contest: Post your prediction of who Rockets will sign during the off season here. Before next Season start, I will summarize the results and "annouce" -)) the winner. And the prize is ... .. still thinking .. Here are the rules: You must post one's name before we hear any reliable news that he will be signed. For each correct prediction, you will earn 100/(total number of posters that also predict he will be signed) . For each wrong prediction, you will be deducted 0.1 point (this rule might change ... I am thinking hard on it... Ok, let's start the game!
Attention: Changing Rules: To make the game fair to everybody, I think this format is better: instead of writing one or several names, write down the new season Roster (15 players). My prediction example of New Roster: Jon Barry Ryan Bowen Juwan Howard Tracy McGrady Dikembe Mutombo Moochie Norris Scott Padgett Bob Sura larence Weatherspoon David Wesley Yao Ming Jordan (*) Stern (*) Dream(*) SWift(*) * indicates new player. ------------------------------------ 2004 Season Roster: Vin Baker Jon Barry Ryan Bowen Torraye Braggs** Juwan Howard* Mike James Tracy McGrady Dikembe Mutombo Moochie Norris Scott Padgett Bob Sura Charlie Ward* larence Weatherspoon David Wesley Yao Ming ------------

Might as well get my Pet Paul Pierce Prediction Placed Prophetically on Paper (err... something like that). Sura James Paul Pierce * Barry T-mac Howard Yao Lafrentz * Padge Bowen Deke Hakim Warrick * Barrett - Why not. Braggs - Eh (Shrugs) Random Undrafted Rookie - John "Scrubhouse" Mcclaine
Rockets - 2005 - 2006 roster pg - Jeff Mcinnis - rockets sign in free agency sg - David Wesley sf - Tracey Mcgrady pf - Theo Ratliff - Rockets get in a trade C - Yao Ming Bench C - Dikembe Mutombo sg - Jon Barry sg - Bob Sura pf - Juwan Howard pg - Mike James sf - Joey Graham - Rockets First round draft pick sf - Ryan Bowen IR Chrlie Ward Vassilis SPANOULIS Rockets trade - Vin Baker, Clarence Watherspoon, Moochie Norris to Portland for Theo Ratliff
PG: Sura SG: Wesley SF: T-Mac PF: Donyell Marshall (FA - upgrade in rebounding, shooting, and defense over Juwon.) C: Yao Bench: Mike James Jon Barry Dikemebe Mutombo Juwon Howard Expiring contracts: (These guys will be traded at next season trade deadline.) Moochie Vin Baker Weatherspoon Ward Draft: Francisco Garcia (hard to predict a draft pick, but he fits the mold of what the rockets are putting around Yao and McGrady)
PG: Bob Sura SG: Jon Barry SF: Tracy McGrady PF: Kurt Thomas C: Yao Ming Bench: PG: Mike James PG: Charlie Ward PG: Vassilis Spanoulis SG: Raja Bell SF: Ryan Bowen SF: Joey Graham (draft pick) PF: Juwan Howard PF: Clarence Weatherspoon PF: Vin Baker C: Dikembe Mutombo - K. Thomas acquired from NY Knicks for M. Norris, D. Wesley, and a future protected 1st round pick (which could turn into two 2nd round picks). - R. Bell acquired in free agency.
No way too early... But some intriguing names- Earl Watson Jeff Mcginnis Dan Dickau Dermar Johnson Kareem Rush Bobby Simmons Stromile Swift Alan Henderson There are some possible bargains for value if JVG thought these guys had the work ethic and quickness to upgrade our bench Bobby Simmons and Stromile Swift could be starters here.
Marko Jaric -PG Antonio Daniels -SG(Sign and Trade w/ Sonics) Tracy McGrady -SF Juwon Howard -PF Yao Ming - C Bench Francisco Garcia (Rookie) Mike James Jon Barry (Re-sign) Dikembe Mutombo (Re-sign) Mark Madsen Scott Padgett Ryan Bowen (Re-sign) Vin Baker* Moochie Norris* Wayne Simien - (Rookie) Draft Day Deal Transactions: Send Sura and Wesley to Seattle for Daniels in a S&T-Sura backups Ridnour and can play combo guard and Wesley gives them another perimeter threat + is expiring contract Sign Marko Jaric for MLE Big PG (6-7) that has a career 2 to 1 assist/to ratio. He is restricted but has said he wants to play the PG spot in LA. Clippers unlikely to fufill that wish with Livingston developing well. More than likely will not match a MLE offer. Also still young at 26. (Will be 27 in OCT) Re-sign Barry,Deke and Bowen for cheap. All have wished to come back to Houston or retire and at this stage in their careers probably would come back for the vet minimum. Trade Future 2nd round pick + Spoon (expiring contract) for the rights to Wayne Simien. This is dependent on where Wayne will fall. Most mock drafts I have seen has put him in the low first round early 2nd round. This would mean a top tier team would probably draft him, but not use him in their rotation. An expiring contract like Spoons may prove to be more useful to them. The 2nd round pick is there to balance anything out or sweeten the pot to get Simien since Spoon at this point is dead weight. The pick may not be necessary if Spoon is enough. Draft Francisco Garcia with the 24th pick. Athletic SF/SG out of Louisville. Can do everything well: penetrate, shoot the ball, pass, rebound. Defense needs work but with his long arms and speed he can become a real good perimeter defender under JVG. From a winning program in college and good coach(Pitino) so he knows what hard work is. Sign or Trade for Mark Madsen Probably will get flamed for this choice, but here goes. Madsen isnt going to nailing 15 foot jumpshots, but the guy is a banger down low and rebounds like his is possessed. Huge energy guy that can give you 4-8points and 8 boards in limited time off the bench. Can play the 4 or 5 spot. All out hustle guy and is a fan favorite wherever he plays because of his effort. Young player but has won two rings (lakers) and would have the most successful playoff resume among any of the current rockets. *Sign and trade for Madsen for either Baker or Norris (expiring $) to minnesota. T-Wolves trying to clear house and rebuild around KG will need all the cap space they can get. There is my plans for this offseason. Of course the PF spot is still the soft spot in the lineup but you cant get everything done in one offseason. If we can get Simien i think he can be our pf of the future. Or next season use the MLE to get a PF, right now the asking prices for chandler or swift (whom many here want) is too high. Rome wasnt built in a day folks, it may take 2 seasons to get the talent we want on this team, but if all the above pieces fall into place i think making the second round would be easy next year.
Are you kidding me? It's funny, people on the BBS somehow thought he was something before this season, when he had put up two awful seasons. Now he puts up an average season in limited minutes (due to improved distance shooting) and he has shot to the top of everyone's list. I mean, I bet since he's got a slavic name he's a smart versatile heady player who shoots lights out -- we need guys like him. My god, I bet within a few months the legend of Marko Jaric is going to grow and grow to even more outrageous proportions- never mind the fact that he is among the very worst starting point guards in the West, and is among the worst defenders in the entire league (and ostensibly auditioning for a starting slot on one of the best defensive team around)
Wait! Do I get points for previous predictions that came true? http://bbs2.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=69129
Here is my realistic prediction: PG: Sura/James/Spanoulis (bring him over from Europe) SG: Wesley/Barry SF: T-Mac/Francisco Garcia (draft) PF: SAR (for the MLE)/Howard/Padgett C: Yao/Deke IL: Vin Baker/Moochie Norris/Clarence Weatherspoon Charlie Ward's last year of his contract will be bought out (or traded for a 2nd round pick) and I just dont see a spot on this team for Ryan Bowen. My Dream off-season: Draft Simean, do a sign and trade for SAR, and use the MLE for Simmons.
