I have a feeling I started this same thread a while back, but couldn't find it when I searched...oh well

My favorite is PF Changs (a lot of people say it's gross and not "real" Chinese food...I don't care if ain't real Chinese food cause it's still hella good...the only dishes you need are Mongolian Beef (extra spicy), Chicked with Orange Peel, and Chang's Spicy Chicken...ahh

I also really like Shanghai River Restaurant...not many people know about this place, even though it's won a ton of awards...including a lot from marvin zindler (the GOOD awards from marvin zindler)...you gotta try the Mongolian Beef, Chicken with Orange Peel, and Shrimp in Hot Garlic Sauce here...this restaurant is located at 2407 Westheimer...who knows, maybe Yao will start showing up here...it's close to Compaq and he IS from Shanghai, right?

I've been to so many other Chinese Restaurants in Houston but these two are the only one's that I like...I can't stand Chinese buffet restaurants...

Fu's Garden is decent. (maybe so are those others, but they're way out of my price range)

I think the people that visit this bbs place are more chicken fried steak people, or barbecue type people.

I went to the Golden Palace on Bellaire near Gessner on Sunday. I don't know if this is an indication but there were asians lined out the door waiting for tables.

I had the cashew chicken...pretty good.

Hunan Village on Shepherd between Westheimer and Richmond. I ate there once on the 4th of July and they had a hand-printed sign on the door that read, "July 4. We open."

It was also my ex-girlfriend's favorite restaurant, so if you see her there, give her the finger for me.

My favorite is My Hoa. It's somewhere on Beechnut. Never actually been there, just drove by it. Love the name though...

I thought My Hoa was a supermarket. Anyway, what's wrong with a buffet damnit!?!? Wok Bo rules! :D

Golden Palace is definitely a model, traditional, Chinese restaurant. They have American and Chinese (much better) menus...but even the American is not so Americanized.

I had a friend who worked at a really great place, but it was mafia owned, so I won't divulge its name. :)

Chinese Cafe on Bellaire (not Richmond) is also really good and pretty authentic.

Behind Chinese Cafe in the strip mall with the Popeyes is a great bakery - Olympia - for Bao (steamed buns) Char Siu Bao, vegetable, etc - all good and cheap.

Fung's Kitchen off of 59 (south of Fondren, I think) is good for seafood - mixed authentic/Americanized

I like Auntie Changs on Shepard. Also Happy All Cafe in the Heights.

    HOWEVER......
Hunan Dragon on West Alabama and Shepard used to be the best. $3.99 got you dinner, iced tea, and a really good egg roll (not the healthy flaky ones....the gnarly fried ones).

But then the owner sold out to the owner of River Oaks Hunan, and now it sucks.

My wife and I used to meet there for lunch every Friday. Now it pains me to drive by there. Did anyone ever eat there?

If there are two things we Members of the Tribe know, it's suffering and where to get good Chinese food.....;)

Rimmy and Old School hit on a good one. Golden Palace serves very good food and does a great dim sum on the weekends. Old School, that's probably why it was so packed on Sunday. If you don't get there by 10:30 AM, you're waiting for a while.

Another good weekend dim sum place is Kim Son on the Southwest Freeway (at the Fountains), believe it or not. But you have to get there by 11AM. The beer I drink on Friday and Saturday nights doesn't always allow me to make it to Kim Son for dim sum on time.

The Chinese restaurant that I have been frequenting quite a bit lately is called Jade Village. It is in a shopping center on the southwest corner of Gessner and Harwin. It is very traditional Cantonese food, and they make killer lobster & crab dishes and a mean war wonton soup. The clay pots are damn good as well. I recommend it.

    Dim sum is walking buffet.

You guys need to stop rocking the fake Chinese grease joints, and jump on the Vietnam grub train. Que Huong, Pho Hoa are the most authentic Vietnamese/Chinese in Houston, next to my grandma's mother****in kitchen, which by the way is unbeatable. For a quick fix try the Vietnamese sandwiches found in any Vietnamese super market. Hadoken

My fav chinese restaurants are China Bear and Timmy Chan's Chicken & Rice. China Bear is the epitome of authentic Chinese cuisine. ;)

This thread was specifically about Chinese food, thus, the Chinese-specific responses.

Vietnamese over Chinese any day of the week, every day of the week. Houston has quite a few good restaurants.

Vietnamese sandwiches...damn, now you are making me cry. :)
