So I decided I'm going to join the rest of civilization and buy my first IPod. I'm not at all interested in video capabilities, but I definitely want something with plenty of space on it because I have a pretty extensive collection of music that I'd like to have going, not to mention several podcasts that I subscribe to.

So where is the best place to go for a new IPod? Should I go 4 GB or 8 GB? I'm just getting sick of crappy music at the gym and having nothing to listen to while riding the bus to school, etc.

    So where do I go?

They're all the same price everywhere. Unless you're a student then go to the Apple store and get a student discount.

I bought my 2gb Ipod Nano from the apple store online for $99 over a year ago.

Today, I would buy the 4GB iPod Nano for $149. It also plays videos and comes with 6 month warranty from Apple, I believe. + free shipping

Buy a case and use it at the gym, or just turn it and shove it in your pocket on your way to class every morning. You won't notice it's there.

I'd suggest going for a high capacity one as you say your music collection is extensive and will be adding to it constantly. An 80GB or 160GB would seem better for that.

Also, if you're concerned about iPod prices, you can look to Samsung, Creative, iRiver or Sandisk players. They're just as good and some would say better, but go on sale a lot more often as far as I've noticed.

Generally you can't get then cheaper at any store (Sam's may carry them for a few dollars off), but I think Best Buy may be offering an iTunes card with an iPod purchase this week.

Sams or Costco maybe the cheapest stores to go and buy one but you'll probably find the cheapest price on-line somewhere.

16 GB nano seems to be your type

if you don't care about videos you can get a really cheap 30GB ipod from when they first came out(black and white screen)

My brother has a brand new 8gb ipod nano that he won at a school raffle. He already has an mp3 player, so he is selling this one. The only thing is that it is teal, so I don't know if that is a problem for you or not. Email me through the board if you are interested.

Dude just go to any gas station at MLK and there's always some guys there selling ipods there. If you're lucky he'll be selling some other goodies too... for much cheaper. Just watch out for the cops.

So you have an extensive collection of music, or extensive collection of iTunes?

If it's just mp3s, get a Sansa e280. It's 8 GB, about $120-140, has 20+ hours of play time, and just acts like an external drive when plugged in.

It also has a micro-SD card slot for expansion. Other features are radio, video play, and voice recording.

When mine got stolen, I replaced it with a Sansa Clip - which is like an IPOD shuffle but has a small LCD and similar functionality to the Sansa eSeries without video.

I'm with Gutter Snipe. I bought an 8 GB Sansa View a few weeks ago for $150 and love it.

I had a bad experience with iPod's the first time around so I figured i'd give somebody else a shot. So far so good!
