How good could he really be for us? The games that I have watched of him, I have been in shock of how good he has looked. He seems to have a ton of raw talent! Do you think other GM's our kicking themselves for not grabbing him and letting him slip to the 24th pick? Is he in all-star in the making or am I dreaming? Give me your best and worst case senario for Head!
with the players we have on our team, I would put down good money to say that he'll never be an all star player, taking the term for its literal meaning. That said, if he's a Sam Cassell with D, which is possible, that probably still won't get him in the All Star game (well, maybe after 10 years), but I'll take that in a heartbeat. I'd kill for that, actually. I'm trying to think of who he reminds me of, but I can't quite place it. He's not as slick or as cocky as Cassell, but he's got a reserved charisma I'm really liking. Rookie of the Year could very well be Chris Paul, but we could have made the best draft out of the entire league (relative to draft position).
The kid is a gunner. plays like Van excel. not shy to take any shot. i like to see him at times play SG. i know were stacked at the position, but i just think head could thrive at the 2 guard. he reminds of Mobely. can play the 1 spot, but is best Suited at the 2.
Though his game is not that similar to Josh Howard's, that is who he reminds me of. Both guys went to good colleges for 4 years, and went low in the draft. They both simply know how to play the game. Head just really knows what he's doing out there. He has shown that he can make the simple bounce passes on the break that Francis seemingly always screwed up. He also seems really poised and fearless. After playing in so many huge college games, the nba preseason must seem like nothing to him. I knew before the draft that we would pick this guy, but he seems even better than I anticipated.
Best case scenario, JVG lets him off the bench this year. I think he's proved so far that he deserves more minutes than JVG gave Boki.
I don't know about Sam Cassell, but it sure looks like Head (Lead?) could be more than ready to step in for Dave Wesley when his time is up. Looks like he may be our first good pick since Yao.
He has really been steady so far. Lets see how he does in the regular season. If he is the real deal, which I think he is, no way JVG sits him on the bench; espcecially if he plays D.
There was a Rockets employee talking about Head being better than D.Wesley in off season training. It seems it's materializing! Best Case Scenerio: Better than D.Wesley Worst Case Scenerio: Worse than D.Wesley
Actually, Luther reminds me of Michael Dickerson. Similar playing style, Luther just seems a little more active.
I actually brought that up with a friend of mine. For some reason I see some Mobley in there. Maybe it's that fearlessness. Best case scenario (for me): Joe Dumars (especially since JVG and others talked about his defense before) Worst case scenario: Shawn Respert (undersized 2 that can't really play the 1)
if head can anywhere near cassell then we have a steal on our hands. i love how quick he looks on defense and how confident he plays. there's no deer in the headlights look going on that alot of the rookies we've drafted in the past seem to have. it shows alot for him to come into a jeff van gundy run team, as a rookie, and not be afraid to play his game. one thing i'm curious about is, isn't head known to have a tremendous vertical leap? it was listed at 38" i think. i don't watch college basketball so i don't know what kind of athleticism he showed there, but i was kind of expecting some attacking of the rim.
He reminds me of John Starks, actually (maybe because he's gonna play for Jeff Van Gundy) He may be a tweener, but he's quick, athletic and aggressive - and I think he can play shooting guard in the NBA.
Best case scenario for this year is Luther turns out to be our best backcourt player. We eventually start him at SG, he's a very good defender and hits the outside shot. He learns to run the offense and can play PG effectively also. He always finishes games and what position he plays late in 4th quarters depends on which other backcourt player is most effective that game. I will state the obvious again: We've got to wait for the real games to see how good he is. If Luther averages 10 ppg over the first 10-15 games, he's the real deal. Remember Derrick Chievous.
