Best Buy Still Using Secret In-Store Website With Higher Pricing

Even after being slapped in the face with a suit by a Connecticut attorney general, Best Buy is still having an internal bestbuy.com website that offers higher prices than the actual bestbuy.com. The only thing Best Buy promised to do is place a notice on the website to indicate that these are in-store prices, which may not be the same as the prices seen online. The point? Bring a printout or a browser-capable cellphone (don't use their Wi-Fi) so you can show employees the price you saw online, which they're supposed to honor.

Update: A Best Buy employee sheds light on why this is happening:

Our tipster says that the site is used to give employees "a place where they can order large purchases that are shipped to home and the sale shows up on the store's sales report." It's also used to honor in store only prices, and will let them ship stuff to customers without a raincheck.

However, the stores aren't obligated to match the online prices, because different regions have different pricing structures, whereas their website has one price for everyone. The only time they have to honor prices, he claims, is if it's in the weekly circular ad.

The only reason I would go to best buy is out of convenience or if I'm really impatient for something. Other than that, I'd rather shop online since u'll get way better deals.

    Best buy = devil

I was at Best Buy the other day picking up Entourage Season 3 part 2. In store the price was 34.99 and online was 32.99. I told the guy that online they had it for 22.99 and he matched it without even double checking. Morons :D

i wouldn't call him a moron, it's a 50/50 type of deal. you were fortunate enough to find someone who didn't care about his job and gave you the benefit of the doubt. lazy/careless employees are great for us consumers. :p

a couple of days ago best buy had a sale on cod4 for $37.99. i used a copy of the $10 off coupon and picked it up for $27.99 :) the women at the register read the coupon and this got me nervous (no copies allowed). ultimately she decided to give me the discount. i guess she was being nice since it was the 24th.

only for two days, monday and tuesday. i think you might be able to get them to match the circular/ad they had for $37.99 for Asssassins Creed/Madden 08/COD4/Simpsons for 360/ps3. right now the price is showing up as $59.99 at their website. what you could do is get best buy to price match kmart, gamestop, or target for $39.99, then use the $10 off coupon and get it for $29.99.

btw: cod4 is awesome. i'm not a fps fan, but this game feels very similar to counter strike (my fav and only fps i like). some people complain about the short single player campaign, but it didn't bother me. it was action packed all the way around with no boring/repetitive missions. the ai is actually decent rather than being nearly useless in most fps games and some missions are just insanely hard (on medium).

a good/bad thing is you're rewarded the more you play online. you can unlock better guns, accessories, camouflage etc.

yep. I went to the bestbuy off bunkerhill and tried to do a pricematch with circuit city for call of duty 4 (for only 40 bucks on xbox360).

The guy told me some hoopla about how they only do the price match if the store has them in stock. So we called like 3 circuit cities, no one had them in stock so he couldnt honor the price match. AND i had a circular too.

Got frustrated, went to the one off 59/gessner, (kinda ghetto out there) but they did the price match without even calling in. Sometimes you get pricks, sometimes you get lazy workers. gotta roll the dice with worst buy.

I really haven't bought any electronic item at a physical store like Best Buy or Compusa in about 5 years. Everything basically is cheaper on the internet. The only thing which comes close to being a good deal is the blank media cd's and dvd's they sell at Office Depot.

Nowadays its much safer to shop online, than at a brick and mortar store actually.
