These are purely my opinions and yes I went to Texas Tech. I have been to all 6 cities for football weekends when I was in school. 6. Waco, TX (Baylor) - Weekend plans of most students consist of going to see mommy and daddy in Houston or Dallas. And you can forget about drinking or partying..... 5. College Station, TX (Texas A&M) - Tradition spadition, if The Tap and Dixie Chicken don't excite you, neither will this sorry excuse for a town. Bryan sucks even worse...... 4. Norman, OK (Oklahoma) - Lots of hotties go to this school, but the place is run by the greeks. So unless you like doing the elephant walk, your screwed. God, and Sooner football are in the same echelon here and that stupid fight song they play constantly, wears on your last nerve! 3. Lubbock, TX (Texas Tech) - Hottest chicks in the Big 12 flock to this deserted island of a town. Locals are friendly, but Greeks rule here too. Labeled a "party school" (what college isnt?), and lives up to that name pretty darn well. 2. Stillwater, OK (Oklahoma State) - Anyone ever heard of Eskimo Joe's?? Lots of bars, lots of hotties, a little bit more of the friendly college atmosphere. Even if you come from a rival school like I did, they still treat you nice. 1. Austin, TX (Texas) - This is the hands down winner. Best liveable city in Texas, best place for students, hot chicks, laid back atmosphere. It hurts to promote a rival like UT, but there really is no comparison for the total college experience.
First...are you using new math?? 6, 5, 4, 3, 5, 6??? huh??? Second...yeah...there was no drinking or partying at all at Baylor... those 18 year olds there who have independence for the first time have no interest in partying or the opposite sex....that was not EXACTLY what I saw there, Drew!
My wife went to Baylor for undergrad and Tech for law. Granted, a law student will probably party less, so her opinion would be skewed, but she'd definitely disagree with you. She partied her ass off at Baylor.
Lubbock sucks, its the worst town ever invented. I agree with Austin being cool for college, but it sucks to live there after your out of college and working, and trying to have a family. Its way over-priced to live there, plus the traffic is horrible.
Baylor Class of '79. A campus full of upper middle to upper class kids with lots of disposable income and there's no drinking or partying? Yeah, right.
Drewdog, you're way wrong on this one. As someone who's spent the majority of weekends in Waco the past 22 months, I assure you, there's a lot of partying and drinking.
I've lived in Lubbock since '99 and although there are a few quirks here, its a good place to live. The weather here, overall, is actually better than Houston, where I grew up. Not having to deal with humidity is worth living through a little bit of winter. The women here are hot, hot, hot, and the city is growing as the "good ol' boy" network is literally dying away. The city is doing a lot to bring new business here which along with TX Tech's growth will push this city further along.
None of those towns come close to Austin though, so its not really a fair comparison to those other 5 places.
I guess it depends on what you like. I grew up in Amarillo (where the winters are actually generally slightly colder) and tend to like the warmer winters coupled with the humidity that the D/FW area offers (and I realize it's not quite as humid in Dallas as in Houston). There's nothing wrong with Lubbock, though it just seems so small to me. When I lived there (and I say the same for Amarillo where I lived much longer), I just felt squeezed in by the smallness of the city and felt so isolated since it's so far away from so much. And since Lubbock doesn't have direct Interstate access (that goes anywhere other than Amarillo), it's a little harder to travel to some other places (like OKC or Albuquerque). I can see some of the appeal of living in Lubbock for some, but I can certainly see why someone who prefers living in a place like Dallas or Houston would see Lubbock or Amarillo as a wasteland of sorts. I would say, though, that whoever thinks Lubbock is the worst town invented hasn't spent time in a lot of places.
My rankings are not scientific, just my own personal observations when I partied in each city during college ('94-'99). The parties that I went to at Baylor (game in Waco - 1997) were nothing short of lame, and the city has very little to offer if you want to go bar hopping. Once again, it was my own personal experience. I might have had a better time if I went to the game again in 1999.
i'll totally agree that bar hopping isn't much of an option in Waco...but i guess i live by the "turns out not where but you're with that really matters" line from DMB...and there were lots of attractive girls with whom to spend time with at Baylor. as an 18 year old college student, i found that time spent at parties with those persons was just fine, thank you very much.
Amen to that. I had never visited the city until I got accepted at Texas Tech. The town grew on me in the 5 years I spent in Lubbock, and although its not the prettiest city in Texas, it definitely does have its perks: Women...... lots of them...... really good looking ones......
Try to name a big college that doesn't have lots of good looking women? I mean, if a college has an enrollment of about 25,000 girls between the ages of 18 and 23, theirs going to be good looking girls every which way you turn. I find it hard to see how anyone could say that college A has better looking girls than college B...unless of course you go through and rate every girl from one to ten and come up with an average score for each college.
I went there, and there was no such large population of hot women. They must've added some special programs in recent years to attract the attractive.
Something in the water I guess. Lots of girls from Dallas go to Tech, and Amarillo has quite a few hotties there as well.
That also wasn't so much true when I was growing up in Amarillo. Amarillo had its share, but wasn't anything above average. But I did notice when I went back to Amarillo in 2000 for a year, there seemed to be more attractive young women around than when I was growing up there. But when I was in college, it was TCU, SMU and Baylor that seemed to be at the head of the class (so to speak) for attractive female student populations, at least out of the ones that I knew about (I admit that I didn't spend any time in Austin, Houston or College Station... or Stillwater or Norman/OKC for that matter).
The best looking girl I've ever seen was at the University of Houston during summer school. ****ing A!!! She would wear next to nothing in class. She parked in the same lot as me, so I'd stay a little after class so I could get a nice view from behind as I was going to my car. Drool!!!!
