    Is there a good one?

Everyone keeps telling me Crystal Bay (or beach) at Galveston? But others tend to say its a dirty beach? Then others would just say dont even bother (being from California and Hawaii).

But I live in Houston and want to swim. Maybe a water park with waves? Idk, need help. Need my tan back where I can stay cool in the water too and want to continue teaching my boys to swim in a funner fashion!

I agree with those that told you that if you're from California or Hawaii, don't bother. ;)

Of course, maybe there's a hidden non-muddy-brown gem somewhere out there.

I like Corpus. I like to drive to Padre Island and there's a little beach off whitecap where you can drive on it and it is pretty nice for a Texas beach.

Galveston is like swimming in chocolate milk, except doesn't taste as good.

Padre's probably the best place to go if you want to swim at a beach in Texas. If you're willing to drive 8 hours for a swim...

    Completely agree.

Galveston isn't all that bad. I like to hit up stewart beach every now and then.

That may be fine if he were looking for the bad beach comparisons in each state, but I'm guessing he's not. Now let's compare the best beaches in each state.

That's probably the best one I've been to in Texas.

Port Aransas is the nicest Texas has, but if I was you, I would take a trip up to Spring, and just go to Splashtown.

Someone told him Crystal Beach was a good beach? LOL!

I agree with RedRowdy...Port A is the best beach in Texas.

Not much of a connoisseur, and maybe a homer, but having been to beaches in California, France and Italy, I'm perfectly happy with Texas beaches. Sure, there's plenty of silt. But, I also enjoy not freezing my ass off in the water.

While in the Navy, I hit up a port called Dubai I think it was. A popular place to go and cool down was water park (forget the name) but it was actually nationally rated a top 10 water park. I remember it a had a big swimming area with (whats the word) artificial waves. Does splash town have this or just rides and slides?

Now for Galveston, one of the bad things someone told me was it had no sand. Just small sized rocks.... fact or fiction?

How far is Port A from Houston?

Back in the day no doubt about it- South Padre Island across from Port Isabel was the finest

White sand, green blue water and nice little surfing, now it is like way over-developed and mostly a spring break place
