Who would you guys say is the best NBA baller in Texas. So far this year my vote has to go to Dirk Nowitzki. The kid has made every defensive player trying to guard him look stupid. He has finally developed a low post game, continues to improve on defense, and well you already know about his "J". I do say that Franchise is a very close second so far this year.

    Francis or Duncan.

Nowitzki had a 1 point first half in the opener, and didn't come on until the second half.

At which he scored 20 in the second half, and ended up with 7 rebounds. In game 2 he had 30 points, and 13 rebounds. It's not so much the point total as much as it is how he gets them. He takes the smaller guys down in the paint. He drives right buy the big guys, or just hits a three on them. Mark my words he will be starting in the All Star game this year.

Yes, I know. I watched the game. It was Detroit's to lose until the second half. Had Finley not held up the Mavs, Nowitzki may have taken some flack for the loss.

Who is going to vote him in? Is he going to get more votes than Garnett? Duncan? Webber? I don't see that happening. Duncan is still the best player in Texas. Don't forget basketball is played on both ends...is Dirk shutting people down defensively? Is he even better than Finley yet?

Thank you Freak... while Dirk has a nice versatile game, and can be a star, he is not physical enough inside to be even comparable to Duncan at this stage of his career. Duncan plays better defense, rebounds more, blocks more, has better post moves, and overall is just more of a true superstar right now than Dirk. BTW, Duncan is shooting 79% FTs so far in the season, an area many said was his weakness. Dirk may get there eventually, but he isn't there yet.

By the way, Stevie may have a claim to this title as well, to this point in the season. 27.5 points and 11.5 rebounds per game from a point guard is amazing. He's taken over games when he's had to, hit some clutch shots, and has really been a better leader.

All I have to say is watch the kid play. Maybe saying that he will start the All Star game may be a bit much (this year). I do believe that the coaches will vote him in as a backup. That doesn't mean that the other players are better. The fans vote in the starters but after last year it was made real clear that most fans only vote for their favorite players not neccessarily the best player. Before the year is out Dirk will be able to be mentioned in the same sentence as Garnett, Webber, and Duncan. I also believe he will make All NBA First team over both Webber, and Garnett. There is only 1 small forward out there that is even close to Dirk, and that's Paul Pierce. That's assuming McGrady is listed as a SG.

Steve has been the best so far. Better than Duncan, Dirk, and Finley.

    2-0 27.5 points, 5.5 assists, 3 steals, 11.5 rebounds

    Compared to Duncan:

    1-1 17 points, 13 boards

    and Dirk:

    2-0 25.5 points, 10 boards

Of course, the stats won't stay that way all year.

I would rank the players like this:

Duncan-Francis tie Duncan gets the nod because of his size, while Steve is more talented.

Nowitski- good player, nice shooter, but he doesn't do EVERYTHING, as Steve does.

What you have to understand is that Dirk is a future allstar in the next couple years. He still has to learn when to take over a game on both end of the floor . Finley has learned to take over when the mavericks need him to . Dirk continue to improve year to year . He will learn to become good or above average defensive player with more time. The top player in Texas:
    Duncan
Francis only because he has potential to one of the greatest
Finley really good sometime he carries mav on his back
Dirk will one day be great

This whole "so far" thing doesn't work too well, since we are only 2 games into the season(One for some teams).

But here's how I think it will go...

    1. Duncan, probably the best basketball player east of Los Angeles

    2. Francis-Amazing versatility for a guard

    3. Finley-Nowitzki might be getting the credit for Dallas' becoming a threat, but IMO Finley is still the best basketball player on the team.
    Finley-24.5 ppg, 3.5 apg, 5 rpg, 2 spg, and 45 mpg
    Nowitzki-25.5 ppg, 1.5 apg, 10 rpg, 1 spg, 40.5 mpg.
    4. Nowitzki
    5. Mobley
    6. Robinson
    7. Nash
    8. Smith

On the bubble-Willis(Huge pickup), Daniels, Thomas
