Going to be interning in downtown this summer. Any recommendations for apartments in or near it? Preferably nicer places. Don't mind spending a little extra (just not too much lol). Also, where are the best/safest places to live near downtown? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

    http://har.com

Search all of those zip codes on the site above, they are all close to downtown.

I would also check craigslist for a sublet. Finding a short term rental near downtown is going to be difficult this late.

    Garage apartment in The Heights.

Believe it or not, there are quite a few that are bigger/nicer than anything you'll find in a complex. And you don't have to share walls with anyone.

Downtown is expensive. Why waste money so you can live near crackheads?

Do you need to live near the internship? You can live about 5-12 miles away and enjoy your time more. There's not much directly downtown.

    Those aren't 12 miles away

And I'd much rather live downtown than Pasadena or Washington ave. there are definitely better places to live than downtown, but some of you act like there is nothing there which isn't true

Pasadena mention was a gig. If it was me, I'd even consider renting something nuts in East Downtown and living like a king at the same or less price.

    LOL, are you awake?

Also, if dude is young these are the places to live and roll hard with the bunnies. Midtown, Upper Washington, Kirby, Heights, all well within 12 miles breh. Uptown and Galleria are around 13 miles.

    SO FAR!

I'd preferably like to live near it, but I don't mind looking into places a little further away. Any particular suggestions?

And since it's only for the summer I'm looking into maybe subleasing near Rice or UH. How long would the drive be during rush hour if I get a place further out?

There are some places between downtown and UH that are in the ghetto, but are in the progress of being developed... for the same price you'd pay downtown you can get a really, really, really nice place that'll blow chick's minds. As for suggestions, Longhornfan nailed them.
