Really good list. Even though this was a comedic quote, it really opened up my eyes when Chris Rock said "Shaq isn't rich, Shaq is wealthy...The man who signs Shaqs check, he's rich!". I'm extremely glad we have a down to earth owner committed to winning. Besides the Rox how does Les earn his money anyway?
I don't know, but just remember NBA teams are franchises. If the NBA doesn't like how you run your team (this is arbitrary) they can "buy" it back.
Allen has been spending more than Les over the years. Before Roy and LMA era the Jailblazers were the Knicks west, he committed a lot of cash to the team. Now they have a much better GM and he just buys 1st round picks outright (unlike us who buy 2nd round picks).
My picks for worst five: Worst 1. Donald Sterling (Clippers) 2. Donald Sterling (Clippers) 3. Donald Sterling (Clippers) 4. Donald Sterling (Clippers) 5. Donald Sterling (Clippers)
I would have ranked Sarver as the worst. His selling of draft picks is simply unexcusable. I'd rather have Sterling over him. I have no idea why Glen Taylor is ranked higher than him. I would hate to have Sarver as an owner. Ranking Les over Allen does sound reasonable but either way they both are good owners.
For not choking Kevin Pritchard for passing on Durant. He must be a genuinely good guy and a consumate professional.
I have ALWAYS been unimpressed with our owner. He was not responsible for the championships, I hope people know that. He is responsible for 15 years of bad trades, terrible contracts, and awful drafts. Morey is the only hope to bail him out from being a huge disappointment after two years of Rocket's heaven. Fifteen years is a looooooong time to take a team essentially nowhere.
I see where you are coming from but I think Les' recent body of work is pretty solid. Granted during the mid-late nineties he f'd up our jerseys and signed off on some horrible contracts, but the guy does care about the team and isn't just trying to milk the fans for money without trying to put a decent product out there. If anything our issues of the early 2000's was due to poor decisions on the part of basketball management, not our owner. Our owners job is to give our GM the green light to make thing happen and sign the checks. By and large I think Les has done that his entire time here. The one criticism one could have of Les is that he tries to hit home-runs too often (Barkley, Pippen, TMac). But honestly I don't fault him for those moves, they all made sense in their respective eras. Besides he isnt supposed to be a basketball genius, our GM is. I think thats a very fair list. I'd add the Spurs owner to that list too.
