What do you think? These are only MY picks, and limited to what I can think of right this second - I don't need any music snobs getting in my face: 1) Van Halen 2) Cheap Trick 3) Aerosmith 4) KISS 5) Alice Cooper 6) Ramones 7) Guns -n- Roses 8) Metallica Honorable Mention: Bon Jovi Bruce Springsteen The Doors Enuff Z Nuff King's X Lynyrd Skynyrd Mötley Crüe Queensryche Social Distortion Tesla SEATTLE SUCKS (Unless it's Queensryche...)
how about good charlotte? j/k anyway... i've yet to hear anything that wasn't good from orgy... candyass or vapor transmission. by the way... they need something new to come out. i'm tired of waiting. arrrr!
I am so happy to not see Nirvana on your list. Mine would be: Metallica Dream Theater Van Halen Guns and Roses Megadeth Tool Bad Religion
I agree with BobFinn that Jimi should probably be on the list. Eagles and Steve Miller Band would be on my list as well.
LOL Freak! If I didn't know better, I'd think you were the old man at the end of my street who yells at the kids to get off of his lawn. Anyway, I second Bob Finn's mention of the Black Crowes -- especially the Southern Harmony album era. They rocked.
Hmm..seperate metal from RnR.. VH (early of course) Skynyrd Molly Hatchet Tesla GnR Cooper Springsteen Boston Foghat(they moved to the US right after forming, does that count?) Nugent(Amboy Dukes) Nugent(solo) Styx(early) Black Label Society metal: Queensryche Savatage Pantera Dream Theater Metallica(early) Kiss Godsmack Fates Warning
Weezer Ramones Misfits Strokes Red Hot Chili Peppers ...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead Embarassing American bands: Metallica Aerosmith And many, many others. EDIT: Rage Against the Machine, Nirvana
off the top of my head ...Best American Bands... Velvet Underground Violent Femmes de Schmog The Cars Dead Kennedys Nirvana Ramones ...Best American Solo People... Bob Dylan Leonard Cohen (Canadian?) Will Oldham Beck Jimi Hendrix (and the Experience) Buddy Holly (and the Crickets) (this is just rock and roll by the way)
Man, I didn't realize how many of my favorite bands AREN'T from America. Current: DMB Weezer Smashing Pumpkins RHCP (pre-Under The Bridge) REM (pre-Losing My Religion) Metallica (pre-Nothing Else Matters) All Time: Aerosmith (pre-detox) Van Halen (pre-Hagar) Skynyrd Tom Petty AND The Heartbreakers The Doors And a bunch that I'm too lazy to think of.
best houston band ever...at least! to this day, i dont think that i have seen a band more than de schmog. they were fab! good to see that they are not forgotten. here is my list of best american rock and roll bands... pixies ramones velvet underground guns n roses janes addiction rem sonic youth ill take it a step further and name my top 3 american r & r records... 1) pixies-doolittle 2) janes addiciton-ritual de lo habitual 3) g n' r-appetite for destruction the best album ever recorded, in my opinion, is my bloody valentine-loveless, but they were british, or scottish or something. not a band, but bob dylan would be there. neil young is canadian, but his band crazy horse were american, so he could get on there.
DAMN, i can believe i left diamond dave-era van halen off my list. and i call myself a music snob, im embarrased. guess i was blinded by the utter suckiness of non-diamond dave halen.
Despite some of their later stuff being fluff, their first seven albums are good enough to make up for any later lapses in quality. I'm really disappointed that a thread about best AMERICAN rock bands on a HOUSTON BBS has NO mention of ZZ Top.
"Do me a favor. Just kick my ass, okay? Kick this ass for a man, that's all. Kick my ass. Enjoy. Come on. I'm not asking, I'm telling with this. Kick my ass." How could we forget ZZ Top?!?!?
