Looking at the new movie they got coming out Folx are saying that they the best of a generation etc etc This maybe true HOWEVER DeNiro is . . IMO . . .VASTLY SUPERIOR to Pachino I like Pachino . . but it isn't even close to me Rocket River
Pachino did his greatest work in the 70s and 80s. De Niro...the man has range. Portraying a boxer down to the weight/size? Check Playing an overprotective dad in a comedy? Check Capturing a psychotic vibe only few can do? Check Dancing around like a fairy captain? Check Surviving a movie with Eddie Murphy post 1997? Check
I know I'm missing a huge won and I will look silly, but what have either one of them done lately that's been even remotely decent?
RM95, RONIN for DeNiro and Devil's Advocate for Pacino. Are you talking about oscar-worthy, or just money-makers at the box office? I think if it's the former, none. So do you dislike Pacino's characters or Pacino the ACTOR? I like Pacino. Maybe 'cuz of Carlito's Way and because of Tony Montana.
I feel like some of the best acting jobs are done by actors playing unlikeable characters. Daniel Day-Lewis definitely comes to mind.
Pacino's performance in Godfather 1 and 2 is EPIC. Like in the pantheon of acting. But then you got some hits few and far in between. Scent of a Woman...Devil's Advocate. To me, him and Denzel Washington are alike in that they don't stray too far from the characters they've played in previous films. DeNiro...the man did Taxi Driver, Awakenings, Raging Bull, Wag the Dog, Meet the Parents, Goodfellas, The Untouchables, Analyze that....there's more range. It's like comparing Denzel's career with Tom Hanks'.
IIRC...i believe i read that they hated each other during that movie and were never filmed in the same shot.
I saw an interview where Pacino stated that he wasn't sure how to approach DeNiro about the scene during filming... He didn't know if he wanted to rehearse it or how he wanted to do it. The day of the shooting they went it in and that's what we got to watch... They basically knew the parameters, but used improvisation...kinda like what Miles Davis did. It comes out more pure and real. Best scene ever to me BTW. "...guy told me one time...Don't let yourself get attached to anything you are not willing to walk out on in 30 seconds flat if you feel the heat around the corner."
