Who are some other key, big-name free agents the Rockets can go after if they don't sign Webber? I don't know because all the hoopla has surrounded Webber's free agency but that's only normal.

I've heard Antonio Davis's name being thrown around cause he can opt out of his contract.

I just went to realgm and looked up the FA's and Player Options for next season. I'm too lazy to go through the list to find the key guys, but they're there somewhere I guess.

I didnt realize Marc Jackson of the GS Warriors was a Free Agent...also David Robinson, according to RealGM, is a FA. Other nice fits might be LaPhonso Ellis and Anthony Mason just in case we dont land Webber.

He said "key, big name free agents," not some Rear Admiral that was abused by the Dream. [IMG]

I think Marc Jackson isn't a free agent. I remember hearing a few weeks/months ago that the league decided for some reason that one of the years most people thought would count towards his free agency status didn't count and that it would be another year until he was free. I don't really remember maybe someone else can clarify. I wouldn't want him anyway.

Marc Jackson IS an FA, but we have to offer him more than 4.5 million (GS can match it), AND he's stated that he wants to stay with Cowens.

Webber is the only FA worth looking at.

If Webber comes here, Shandon won't leave cause we'll be contenders.

If he doesn't, he won't leave cause it's the best situation, and we can offer him a lot of money.

This is my view on the situation:

If Webber does come her, then we can re-sign Shandon and Norris. Hakeem might play for chump change cause he wants another ring, but I seriously doubt he'll stay. I see him on the Bucks, Magic, Blazers, Sixers (unable to re-sign Dikembe), or Suns. Those are all better options for him. Our team would look great, something like this:

    Cato/Collier/Draft pick#1
    Webber/KT/Draft pick#1
    Shandon/Langhi/Draft pick#2
    Cuttino/Draft pick#2/Shandon
    Francis/Mooch
    Draft pick#1=Big, rebounding PF/C
Draft pick#2=6'7 accurate 3-pt shooter who plays D...This would probably be harder to find, so this would be our higher pick..Possibly terrence morris, Shane Battier, or Eddie Griffin...

    Definitely contenders I say..

On the other hand, if Webber doesn't come here, it will also be a great situation. We'll re-sign Mo long-term, Shandon long-term, and Mochie for a few years. We'd still have the picks, and a young AMAZING core..We'd have a great trio of stars, with the guards' rebounding offsetting Mo's problems that look like they've dissapeared..

This is what we'd end up with:

    Cato/Collier/Draft pick#1
    Mo/KT/Draft pick#1
    Shandon/Langhi/Draft pick#2
    Cuttino/Draft pick#2/Shandon
    Francis/Mooch

Same, but Mo replaces Webber...it would take us an extra year to contend, but we'd be contending for longer cause Mo is younger than Webber and won't be on the decline...Francis, cat, and Mo are al learning...In, say, 3 years...Francis, Cat and Mo will be very close to their prime, and will not be the young, inexperienced players they are now....Cato would be a semi-veteran....Shandon would be our veteran, with the playoff experience and preaching defense......

It's a win-win situation, but i sorta prefer the second one....We can contend for years with that core...

San'e right on Jackson. He'll be a restricted free agent which means if no offer goes over what Golden State is allowed to offer ($4.5 million) he must resign with them. I get the feeling though that he won't even consider other offers and just take GS 4.5.

Do we have enough to sign Webber and Jackson? Because on NBAtalk.com it said Jackson will ask for about 3mil a year. And as far as the draft we will have the 13th pick plus the Bucks pick which is the 23rd at the time.

I just hope that the Rocks don't have a repeat of McDyess/Pippen (can't sign the player you really wanted, so you sign the next best player not taking chemistry and fit into consideration). If they can't get Webber, re-sign Mo and Shandon (neither should get more than Cat's deal), draft well, free up more space (I'm dreaming of Cato in somone else's jersey), and wait for the FA class of 2002 (which should be loaded).

Well, how much cap space exactly will the Rockets have? And just what does that exactly mean? Who will be available in 2002???

You could make a team with all of the ex-rockets on this list.

    Bryce Drew
    Matt Maloney
    Otis Thorpe
    Chucky Brown
    Mark Bryant
    Vernon Maxwell
    Zan Tabak
    Mario Elie
    Emanual Davis
    Pig Miller

I know there's more on that list like Avery Johnson and Stacey Augmon (haha), but I thought I'd stick with the guys that we actually remember being Rockets.

I think that if we miss out on the Webber sweepstakes then we try to move as high up in the draft as possible and sign JYD and Ruben Patterson.

If we lose Shandon we should definitely try to steal away Eddie Robinson from Charlotte.

He would be a perfect fit for our young team at SF.

    ------------------
Rarely has one player outplayed another the way Olajuwon outplayed David Robinson in their famed playoff series in the same season that Robinson was the league's most valuable player.

That for me, was the performance of a truly great player.

    About re-signing Hakeem-
he stated that he wants to go to a place which has warm weather (thats why he went to college in Houston, not NY). I would like to see him resign with the Rockets for the min, so we can sign Webber. Then re-sign Shandon and Mooch. Maybe even sign and trade Mo (is it possible?).

    Maybe I'm just nuts....

We can't sign n trade Mo cause we don't have his bird rights.

I guarantee Hakeem won't play with us next season, even if Webber signs. he doesn't want to become a fourth option.

Also, Mo will never ever EVER play here if Webber is here too.

Like I said in my previous post, there's only two ways to go.....
