Sad stuff. No reason to ever kill yourself, especially when it has to do with money. I thought the guilt of billions of dollars scammed was heavy enough of a burden for Bernie Madoff but now the death of his son indirectly on his hands? Crazy....

I read this and i'd say it sad as any death is, but like it said, it leaves more doubt that the brothers were involved...I guess I always thought they were as one man couldn't have possibly hid this for two decades right?

I won't read as much into that statement as I probably should, and will just say that if someone had asked Bernie if he'd be alright with what would be the eventual outcome of his misdeeds, that he would say no to cheating all those people of their money. His unfettered chase of wealth has brought ruin and disgrace to him and those he cares for, rather than comfort and satisfaction.

Way to leave your son fatherless... He's a worse parent than Bernie.

No kidding... I'm not a father myself, but a two-year-old asleep in the next room should be reason enough to make it through another day, even if your last name happens to be "Made-off."

I don't think people who have gotten to the point of killing themselves are thinking about their kids. They are thinking about how better off their kids will be without them. It's not reasonable rationalism at play here. People kill themselves to get out of their responsibilities...good or bad. We could issue a press release saying "don't kill yourselves if you have kids"...but I don't think it would do any good.

I'm quite confident this is a cover up.

Think about it, Bernie Madoff scammed people for over 30 years totaling upwards of $50 billion dollars. His sons were appointed VPs of this company. Many people lost their entire life savings. This includes Mafia related people. They have nothing left except anger and resentment. They can't get to Bernie but they sure as hell can get to his family and hurt the people he cares about. Recently his sons purchased several homes, private planes, basically blowing $60 million. I think he was murdered and it was covered up to look like a suicide.

Ya there are at least 2 types of suicides. The ones who can't handle the mental/physical anguish. Their threshold for pain is lower. The others are the ones who truly think that things would actually be better if they were dead. Not sure which category this guy falls under. Either way, suicide rarely makes things better unless your name is Adolf Hitler.

Maybe he didn't kill himself and ran to another country with all the money? And paid off some people in the media and everyone involved to report the fake suicide?
