...On the radio. Actually I think B Hop just got disconnected but they were just going at it on the Calvin Murphy show. Weird. Hopkins offered Roy Jones a 60/40 split. Roy Jones makes a counter offer of winner takes the 60%, and Bernard Hopkins starts back pedaling.
haha, pretty much what I was thinking but it was entertaining radio. I was switching stations and heard Hopkins on 97.5, so I listened for a while. He was dogging Roy Jones a little...not surprising, he's a boxer. So, then Roy Jones calls in and they start arguing. Hopkins kept saying Jones would never fight him but Jones interrupts and tells him to basically pick his price. Hopkins throws out 60/40 (obviously with him getting 60%). Roy agrees but adds one stipulation: winner takes the 60%. Then, Hopkins starts backpedaling and Dave Temper throws out 'winner takes all'...and Hopkins' phone gets disconnected.
It's actually cool that they've both remained relevant since fighting 16 freakin' years ago for a championship. Bernard schools him easily nowadays, though, and it wouldn't give his legacy much of a boost. I'm sure it could still sell based on how much trash these guys like to talk.
I know Jones Jr's next fight is gonna be for a world title in Sydney against Danny Green. The two fighters are good mates and basically its a bit of a pay day for Green because Jones should account for him pretty easily. Jones shoes great speed in his last fight, sure he isn't at his best, but he is still one of the top fighters out there even at this age.
He was extremely fast, alot faster than I thought he would be. But then again Lacy brought no game plan, he basically went in there with a wreckless mentality hoping something would land. Roy had his way with him, completely dominated. But I agree he wasn't at his best, BHOP would probably have the upper hand. Bernard won't stand in front of him and let Roy land 8 left hooks in a row, like Lacy did. I hope it happens, neither fighter really has anything left to prove though. The domination of Pavlik cemented Bhop's legacy. Roy, well he has a heavyweight title. I'd still pay to see them go at it.
Not sure what's harder to believe: 1) Calvin Murphy got a radio show 2) Calvin Murphy STILL HAS a radio show 3) Bernard Hopkins was a guest on Calvin Murphy's show 4) Roy Jones was LISTENING to Calvin Murphy's show 5) Roy Jones CALLED IN to Calvin Murphy's show
regarding #4, I think Jones Jr. mentioned that someone he knew was listening in Houston, and word got back to him, then he called in. So it wasn't like he was listening just because he listens.
yup, he gave a shout-out to "Big Reggie" or someone else for listening to the show, and letting him know that B-Hop was talking mess. RJJ asked him for the phone number, and called in. i listened to most of it - it was pretty entertaining. bigtime radio moment for Murph.
Maybe...but it's a pretty well known fact that he made a career of fighting mandatories as a light heavyweight and ducking some of the fighters like Dariusz Michalczewski that might have been an actual threat to him.
they need to schedule this fight. the fight itself might not be fun to watch, the press conferences would be very entertaining... i would order the fight. these guys are legends
There's a boxer from the UK named Amir Khan that's supposedly making his US boxing debut soon. Apparently, he's the lightweight world champion.
