Probably, but he shouldn't. Coming back on the field after being ejected is a big no-no. Though, he is starting to get hot (finally) and it would suck for him to have to sit 2 games right now.
He should appeal just to drag it out and then he can always drop the appeal when he needs a rest. Also, they may drop it to one game. I assume he is getting 1 game for coming back out onto the field and another for throwing stuff on the field.
http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/front/4873329.html Berkman gets 2-game suspension following ejection, bench-clearing incident Astros first baseman to appeal MLB's sanction By JOSE DE JESUS ORTIZ Copyright 2007 Houston Chronicle CHICAGO --Astros first baseman Lance Berkman received a two-game suspension from Major League Baseball today and fined for his actions Tuesday night at Coors Field. He was scheduled to start serving the suspension tonight when the Astros open a three-game Interleague series against the Chicago White Sox at U.S. Cellular Field, but he will appeal. Former Astros player and general manager Bob Watson, Major League Baseball’s vice president of on-field operations, made the announcement. Shortly after making the announcement, Watson learned from Astros general manager Tim Purpura that Berkman would appeal. “I just talked to Tim Purpura, and they’re going to appeal,” Watson said. According to MLB’s press release, Berkman was suspended and fined “for his inappropriate actions during his Club’s June 5th game against the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field in Denver.” It is not clear how much of the suspension had to do with Berkman’s tantrum in which he tossed a bag onto the field after his ejection or for running on the field during the benches-clearing incident long after he was already ejected. “Until they drop the appeal I can’t go there with you on all the details,” Watson said. “All I will tell you is we took his actions into account on the field and his return to the field after he was ejected.” Because the union is so powerful in baseball, players usually use the schedule to serve their punishment at their leisure. Berkman’s hearing likely won’t be heard until next week, at the earliest. The union, the Astros and Berkman will set the date of the appeal. “The earliest it would probably be heard is some time next week,” Watson said. “There is a new technology we have for audio conferencing for suspensions of three games or less and fines of $5,000 or less, but that again is scheduled by the union and the club.” Berkman has not returned messages seeking comment.
Berkman is an idiot. I had no idea he ran back on the field after Carlos Lee got plunked. If I were Garner, then I would have b****slapped his ass after that. He deserves the suspension. Let him serve it out...we won't beat the White Sox anyway.
He is appealing the suspension according to astros.com, probably gonna drop it if he knows he's gonna lose when we play some bottom-cellar team. http://houston.astros.mlb.com/news/...t_id=2013669&vkey=news_hou&fext=.jsp&c_id=hou
Perhaps Berkman thought it was the next game. His homerun ball velocity does have time travel speedability. I think he just timed it wrong. maybe, maybe no?
Berkman to appeal suspension CHICAGO -- Astros first baseman Lance Berkman, suspended two games and fined an undisclosed amount, will appeal, general manager Tim Purpura confirmed on Friday. "Lance Berkman has decided to appeal his two-game suspension as is his right to do so under the Basic Agreement," Purpura said. Berkman received the word of the suspension from Bob Watson, vice president of on-field operations for Major League Baseball. Without an appeal, Berkman would be required to begin the suspension immediately, meaning he'd miss the first two games of this weekend's series with the Chicago White Sox. Instead, Berkman will schedule a hearing with MLB officials at a later date. He could also drop the appeal at any time and serve the suspension. Berkman was suspended for "his inappropriate actions during his club's June 5 game against the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field in Denver," according to a release issued by MLB. This likely includes Berkman's confrontation with the third base umpire after he struck out on a checked swing, which resulted in an ejection. Berkman also returned to the field when benches cleared after Carlos Lee was hit by a pitch -- another rules violation. http://houston.astros.mlb.com/news/...t_id=2013669&vkey=news_hou&fext=.jsp&c_id=hou
I'd rather him serve his suspension when not playing a team in our division. If he has to appeal it so he can play against the Cubs it's strategically better.
