The initial report I heard was infuriating, but Gergen's comments on this issue were helpful. He claims that Berger is a stand-up guy and didn't take any 'originals': only copies. He also said that Berger hasn't heard anything from the investigators for weeks, then suddenly this is released in the press, raising suspicions of election-year tactics. Since I greatly distrust Clinton and he initiated this, I won't let Berger off yet.
He [Gergen] claims ... And the report above seems to indicate that some documents are missing that do not have originals or copies in the Archives.
Berger's apology sounds kind of lame as well. Saying that it was messy doesn't sound the most comforting. I will be anxious to see what becomes of this.
Yes! I had to roll my eyes when I heard this. Sandy WTF?!?!? I had also heard that the investigation has been going on for about eight months now, and NOW it's just hitting the news? Also justice isn't even sure if charges will be pressed. Interesting; and the 911 report comes out Thursday. hummm....deflection?
Proof positive that there is corruption, lying, dishonesty, etc. throughout politics. It is neither Democrat nor Republican, just as it is neither conservative or liberal. It permeates both parties at all levels. This country needs a political sand blaster to wipe away all of the crap!
Non-story. Who cares? So he took some notes, possibly by accident. As long as he didn't do anything with them, like sell them, then who cares?
He didn't just take notes. He took reports, reportedly critical of the Clinton administration, and stuffed them in his jacket. He apparently knew that note-taking was disallowed. One would assume that he would realize that suffing reports in his clothes would be seriously prohibited. It's not a non-story until all of the questions are resolved.
He put notes in his jacket, not reports, it clearly says so in the article you posted. Not uncommon. I've had witnesses at depositions take confidential documents before -- not on purpose, just because you grab all your stuff at the end and there's a big mess of paper on the table at the end and you want to get out of there.
And FWIW, this is a conversation among secure adults from both sides of the aisle. Inflammatory trolling is not welcome
here's a question i don't know the answer to...did berger bring documents with him? i've had the same thing happen at depositions before...you get back to the office and realize you grabbed something that belonged to someone else. but if berger didn't bring anything with him, then he would have no reason to be retrieving any documents, anyway.

So are you actually arguing that you're certain that nothing underhanded took place because some witnesses at depositions accidentally pick-up a mess of papers?
The wacko far right's never ending h*rd-on for Clinton hating rears its ugly head again. The real idiot here is the person who gave Berger originals and not copies.
wait....so it's impossible for berger to have done something wrong here? we're supposed to look at everything the current administration does as an analogy to the Third Reich, but there's no way possible that Berger really did something underhanded here??? i could care less about clinton at this point. and i'm not supportive of W., either. and i recognize that politicians, on both sides of the aisle, are capable of going to extreme lengths to protect their own ass.
I know he took some reports, but he didn't stuff them in his pants. Grabbing a scrap of a post it note and stuffing it in your pockets is much different than taking an 8x10 report and sticking it in your pants, which apparently is not what happened (I imagine he put them in his bag). Am I certain that nobody did anything underhanded? Pretty certain, yeah. Not only because I know the people involved, but because the kind of stuff they took, while confidential and they shouldn't have had it, wasn't stuff that was going to help them to have anyway -- the only possible thing that would come out of it for them would be bad, so there was no reason for them to deliberately take anything. Hell, I once had opposing counsel hand me his notepad by accident after a deposition. I was tempted to read it but gave it back, when I considered that my own notepad just had drawings and stuff in it anyway.
This has nothing to do with Clinton. Berger now advises Forbes Kerry on national defense issues. Sorry libs, but you can't dismiss this charge on grounds of Clinton-hatred.
(BTW MM I don't consider you a wacko far right kinda guy ) Berger is probably guilty of something here; I am not saying he is not But what he did is no BFD when compared to the GWB Admin status quo behavior.
