Now that they've moved up the deadline for the Amnesty Clause to 8/15, and now that Stoudemire has signed with Memphis, I'm thinking that's our best bet to add any players who might have an impact on this year's team.

Allan Houston and Michael Finley are the two names most often associated with the rule, but surely there are others. And since these players will still be getting paid on their previous contracts, things like a good city, a new arena and a chance at a ring might become bigger bargaining chips than money. In other words, we might be able to afford an impact player.

So: Anyone s out there who's likely to get the amnesty axe and who might help us more than signing some FA scrub?

Wow, if that 8/15 rumor is true, that would be AWESOME for us! Like it's been said, Finley to start for us at the 2 with DW off the bench would be perfect. DA or RP from Portland would also be good additions...then NVE or Payton for the LLE would put us over the top IMO.

Not suggesting him but I've read that Derik Fisher could be amnesty cut since B Davis came along.

The invested a damn load of money in that guy....i think he is going to be still there since Baron is so injury prone. Fisher makes a nice backup and when Baron is out (which he will be for some time during the season) he will still fill in as a starter.

I don't see Fisher being cut.

I think once the initial signings are done (those already announced done in principle) things will slow down until the 15th. Everyone will be waiting to see who becomes available. We could have a two week dead period with little getting done.

Wow. That moved up deadline is fantastic. Let's hope the rox can lure a bargain to come to town, although I don't see many people getting cut.

I agree. However, we have to get off our buttocks and prepare just in case some unexpected players get cut. I would love it if Grant Hill got cut. Houston would be his only destination if he got cut, he's best friends with T-Mac and he never got a chance to play with him in Orlando. I don't think he will, but he wishes he would, because he doesn't like playing with Francis (who does) and he wants to escape the failure that is the magic

Grant Hill isn't best friends with Tracy McGrady. And he's not getting cut.

And I dare you to find a quote that says he hates playing for the Magic and wishes he was cut. Get over yourself, dude.

You know that you can write more than two sentences in one post, right?

What player comes out and says publicly that he doesn't want to play for their team? Especially somebody of Grant's integrity and character. Smell the roses

The burden's on you. You said:
Unless you have something concrete, it's idle speculation.

The guy from the Magic I could see being cut is Christie (which makes that Mobley move look even worse). He actually is unhappy.

If the Magic are seriously considering cutting Christie, I'd put up smoke an mirrors of cutting someone else, and then buy him out after the deadline.

Why do the b**** a favor by paying him full price AND let him make more money off another team when he's already unhappy?

An Orlando sportswriter hinted to this last year. He basically implied that Grant wasn't thrilled with Francis's antics. Also, Dwight Howard said in an interview that he is not going to be so nice anymore and that he will demand the ball from Francis even when he doesn't want to give it up.

During the playoffs last year, Bill Walton was teasing Grant asking him which contender he wanted to go to. The tone Walton used seemed to suggest that he had a prior conversation with Hill. G. Hill didn't exactly deny Walton's claims, preferring to brush them off with a smile

I am not saying that he will get cut. I am saying that he is 32 and he has never won anything. Who wouldn't want to finish their career on a good note? He knows it's not possible with the Orlando Hawks
