With the Rockets landing TMac and loosing Cato in the process. I have a couple of questions that are some what bothering me. For example if we want to do any major damage in the playoffs and go for the title we are going to defenatly going to need a good bench and what we have now just isnt going to cut it. I think the first prority is at the 5. I seriously think we need a big man that can do all the dirty work down in the middle and hold his ground while Yao gets his rest. Another slight problem is the 1. I really am hoping that we pick up a pretty decent pg. There are alot of people out there that i think now see what houston has and wouldnt mind coming here. I am just wondering if anyone has should interest. I know that Antonio McDyess has said something but that was a while ago so i dont know what his deal is. I am wondering if Fisher would want to come here and do what he did with the Lackers with there duo. Iono though. There is so many options and this lack of bench depth has really got me thinking about some things. On a side note. Who exactly did we pick up in the draft. JW.

    Nice thread...

Our 5 priorities for player we need are...

    1. Point guard that can start and run a team.
    2. Back up center for Yao
    3. Back up vetern shooting guard
    4. Another back up big body
    5. another swingman-type player

We need to address this and get a guarantee and eventually sign McGrady for the extension...then resign Yao

Since we our now the first destination on every free agent's list...this summer should go well, we should address this by start of training camp...

    C Yao
    PF Howard
    SF Jackson
    SG McGrady
PG (player we sign or get via trade)

    PF Taylor
    PG Lue
C (player we sign or get via trade)
    SF/PF Weatherspoon
    SF Nachbar
    SG/SF Piatkowski
    PG/SG Gaines
SG (player we sign or get via trade)
PF/C (player we sign or get via trade)

P.S. - I would sign Mark Jackson as an assistant coach or as a 3rd string point guard...he brings intangibles to a locker room hard to find now-a-days in the NBA...

We should be set with this squad for a couple of years...

Well, at least I think so...

I agree, Mark Jackson should return as a player/coach, coming in only in times of injury, times where the team is out of control, and when he has a big advantage vs a little pg in posting up.

    Right now our roster is

    1. ) Yao
    2.) McGrady
    3.) Lue
    4.) Gaines
    5.) J. Howard
    6.) Mo
    7.) JJ
    8.) Boki
    9.) Spoon
    10.) Pike
    11.) A. Griff

with FA of M. Jax, Pagett
I dont think we will bring back either, so I would like to see

Badiane brought in making the total 12.

    E. Griff Signed to a 1 yr deal for the min (13)

    Brent Barry (14)

    OR

Etan Thomas with most of the MLE

    TE for snow

    Badiane

This is the more expensive route but with less risk ( eddie.. Barry's age/defense/contract length)

Who will replace the biggest bench player

    http://realgm.com/src_wiretap.php#1088588615

With assistant coach Larry Drew headed to New Orleans to rejoin Byron Scott, the Nets have apparently talked to Patrick Ewing about joining coach Lawrence Frank's staff, but not at any price. They also haven't discussed a contract extension beyond next season with Frank, whose option for 2004-05 was picked up earlier this month.

    What about Steven Hunter...

He has that Ewing, McGrady, Howard, Lue, Gaines connection from the Orlando Magic...

    Steven Hunter

He is young and I think a free agent...we can sign him to a long term deal to be Yao's back-up...

Keon Clark would be too much of a perfect fit...

Bring in Barry/Hudson and Etan Thomas/Keon Clark, and we will be sitting pretty. I don't how much depth we'll need at SG/SF, with most of the minutes being taken by combinations of TMac, JJ, and Boki. I guess another body couldn't hurt.
