I just wanted to figure out if Ben moved off his position as a shooting coach. I know he is basically Ime's right hand man but did he give up on that part of the job? I felt like this needs to be discussed. I would have tried to make a more interesting thread but I am semi drunk and super sleepy so this is what you get.
Maybe Ben has spent all of his time with Amen so far on jumpshots, and Tari on layups. Those 2 look like the only guys who are noticeably better at something in particular. Amen's jumpshot looks like a 'real' jumpshot (instead of that broken thing from last year). Tari's at the rim percentage has improved out of sight! Of guys who have played significant minutes, he is now 3rd best on the team from 0-3 feet (behind only Amen and Jabari). [[Last year Tari was 2nd worst, ahead of only Fred]]
I would only grade Ben on the rookies that have joined the team since he started last year (Amen, Cam, and Reed), so too early to judge. I don't think he's making much of an impact on guys that have been in the league for a while since they've probably got their own developmental regimen. Amen seems to have improved slightly. Reed is supposed to already be a shooter so it's just a matter of him finding his rhythm and learning the ropes of the NBA. Cam is still a work in progress, but shooting isn't his main problem, it's defense.
Call me crazy, but I swear Alpie's and Amen's free throw percentage has gone up significantly. I'm thankful for that.
This reminds me of the sort of bullshit when fans want to fire the hitting/pitching coaches on a baseball team, while knowing exactly nothing of what said coaches actually do.
Cam's main problem is indeed shooting because he is useless without it. While his attitude, low b-ball intelligence, selfishness, defense, etc are also issues, if he was shooting 40% from long range instead of 1/21 (<5%), he would be in the rotation instead of with RGV. Lack of shooting is this team's Achilles heel and will be their downfall.
You're comment makes no sense due to the fact my thread was asking a question to have an open discussion, not making a statement. I don't mind trolls since that is funny but I honestly think your lack of reading comprehension is genuine.
Sengun Jalen Jabari Tari Amen are all shooting FTs at a significantly higher % this year. If it holds, that can’t be a coincidence,,,not all of them.
Everyone’s has … from the Core. All of them Sengun, Jalen, Jabari, Amen, and Tari all have significant jumps in FT% this year
Are you or are you not discussing the talents and abilities of a professional coach(s) who coaches professional players?
Advertised as shooting coach but he actually did a serviceable job at other things....in Summer League, development......
Reed needs help. I notice he put his off hand on top of the ball instead of the side when he shoots his jumper…. That’s not fundamentally normal
If he isn't teaching them to put more arch in their shot, then he really isn't worth a darn as a shooting coach. I liked what coach Dash was teaching Jalen Green before the season on pace, staying low to high, being balanced. Unfortunately, Jalen remains too high and is sped up. Jabari is now putting a little more arch in his shot and is now making them. First 12 games: 25.0% (3P%) Last 8 games: 54.5% (3P%) about the time I called him out for hitting what he ...............................................is targeting (front rim) and shooting too flat a shot.
It is very scary that you don't understand the difference between making statements and asking questions. This is what you said "while knowing exactly nothing of what said coaches actually do." When you know nothing about what they actually do the first thing is to ask questions. "but did he give up on that part of the job?" If you notice that little thing at the end --> ?. That is called a question marks which denotes that the sentence is a question. It is well known and documented that Ben was a shooting coach (and yes he could be more than that but that is one thing he was known for) and I asked the QUESTION of what is he doing in that department. Your post of "This reminds me of the sort of bullshit when fans want to fire the hitting/pitching coaches on a baseball team, while knowing exactly nothing of what said coaches actually do." implies I was making a statement when I was actually asking what he is doing and responsible for now. It is sad that I have to break it down to such an elementary level for you but here I am.
Can you like his work as a coach but at the same time ask for a specialist? I dont have specific sources, but when Sullivan was coming in, there was no references to his credentials as shooting coach. It was clear he was importante for Udoka too and I like our staff. But the way our rookies come out of the gate shooting and the evolution of prospects like Jabari makes you feel you need more.
Not to defend Buck, or to attack you specifically. But generally, it is lazy to hide behind the statement "I didn't mean that, I was just asking a question?" It's in the same vane of, "I was just joking, can't you take a joke?" Context matters ...a lot. By virtue of you asking the question, the implication is you clearly have doubts, hence the question. You can't imply something and then back off it by saying it was just a question (or a joke). Be strong. Stick to your guns. All that said, I agree with you shooting has been a problem. Jalen, Jabari, Reed, Dillon, FVV, Cam are all capable shooters. It doesn't make sense that this team struggles at shooting. Something is definitely off and hopefully the defense can continue to overcompensate until it gets fixed.
