Tom Cruise doing comedy? I've been laughing at him for a while now, let's see what happens when he tries to make me laugh on purpose.

    Hardy Men Confirmed
    Cruise, Stiller team for comedy.
    by Stax

February 13, 2007 - Tom Cruise and Ben Stiller are officially brothers. The superstars are indeed teaming up for The Hardy Men, a comedy that will follow the adult years of the kid detectives, The Hardy Boys.

Confirming earlier online reports, Shawn Levy will direct The Hardy Men for 20th Century Fox. Levy, Stiller and Fox last teamed for Night at the Museum. Cruise and Stiller may also unite for DreamWorks' Tropic Thunder.

"The Hardy boys, once wunderkind youth sleuths, have grown up. Long estranged, they're brought together to solve one last case," according to Variety. The premise, the filmmakers hope, "will be executed in the spirit of Mr. & Mrs. Smith."

The Hardy Men is aiming for a 2008 shoot, while Tropic Thunder -- a send-up of action blockbusters such as Cruise's Mission: Impossible franchise -- is reportedly only in "the talking stage."

A writer is currently being sought to rewrite The Hardy Men script. Stiller will also produce The Hardy Men via his Red Hour shingle, along with Hardy Boys rights holder Robert Kosberg.

The Hardy Boys used to be one of my favorite book series as a kid. I can't imagine it as a comedy with Ben frigging Stiller and Tom bloody Cruise in it :/ . Damn you Hollywood!

He will probably be the primary villain, or maybe team with Luke and form a rival detective agency. :)

He will probably play the annoyed straight man. Something similar to what he played in Rainman, which had some funny parts in it.

Tom Cruise as the straight man? That seems a bit of a stretch....but he is an actor :D

More importantly, who will play Chet? Jack Black?

Jeez, that is stretching the memory!

Sounds like Tom got a new PR rep. His only way back is through self-depreciation. But I can't see him playing someone funny.

The only way Tom Cruise is funny is if he just plays himself. Unless Val Kilmer replays his role as Iceman and Anthony Edwards as Goose, I'm not seeing another Tom Cruise movie.

BTW, Stiller does a pretty funny Cruise impression.

I think you have something here honey. It would have been a much better movie with Owen and Luke in the title role. They're not as old. And they'd be more fun to watch.

I can't believe they're really gonna do this to the Hardy Boys. It's not right. Next they're gonna do Nancy Drew with Susan Sarandon in the title role, as a down on her luck single mother......

if they are as funny as that MI skit on the MTV Movie Awards where Stiller is his stunt double, then this will be the funniest movie ever....

I'll say it before and I'll say it again...I've liked many of Cruise's movies. He may be a weird turd in real life, but the guy knows how to make a good, exciting movie most of the time.

Sounds confused. Is it modeled after Stiller's Starsky & Hutch? I have a tough time seeing this as anything but a train wreck.

Nah, I can see this movie marketed well, with Cruise and Stiller hitting the media circuit. After a big opening ( $35+ mil) it starts to take a dive.

This is a great career move by Tom Crooze......errrr, Cruise. :D

I'd like to see a serious series of Hardy Boys films(or have them do another TV show based on the books), but this could still be really good. And as the previous poster said, anyone who's seen The Ben Stiller Show, Saturday Night Live, or the Mission: Improbable skit(which was left off the M:I-2 HD-DVD  ) knows that Stiller does a really good Cruise impression.
