Bear with me for a moment and let's talk Detroit Pistons basketball here..... Has anybody else noticed Ben Gordon's fade into obscurity this year? His production and minutes have gotten progressively worse with each passing month -- 2010 being a complete disaster. I realize he's backing up a player like Rip Hamilton that commands heavy minutes, but I'd love to understand the logic behind forking over $60M or so for a player that you plan on giving 25 minutes or less to. It just doesn't add up. I know he's had some minor injuries but a hamstring tweak hardly explains John Kuester's reluctance to play him heavy minutes. I mean, in theory the idea works -- Gordon pretty much has to play alongside a tall PG or combo guard (i.e. Hinrich, Stuckey) so they can cross-match defensively yet he still can't seem to find the court enough. Admittedly (and thankfully), I haven't watched many Pistons games this year so I'm curious how those more familiar with the team feel about his situation. Is it just a bad fit or is there more to it? All I know is he's making a TON of money and this also happens to be the same guy that was dropping 30-40 points in playoff games less than a year ago. Unless there's a compelling issue hindering his situation I have a hard time believing you can't find minutes for a player like Gordon. We all know he has his limitations but the guy is a phenomenal shooter/scorer.
He's been on my fantasy roster all year until I dropped him. Injuries were a big problem for him this year. An ankle injury caused him to fall out of the starting lineup, and Hamilton returning to his usual form is the reason why Gordon isn't seeing very many minutes.
The Gordon signing has been a disaster for both Detroit and Ben Gordon. I see a trade coming this summer. Gordon is still a very capable player, especially down the stretch of a ball game.
I think they were trying to showcase Rip and Tay before the deadline... Joe Dumars for WGM of the year...
The Gordon and Villanueva signings by Detroit were huge mistakes. Joe Dumars lost his mind and spent money just to spend money. At some point I think Gordon will return to form and play like he did in Chicago. He's missed a lot of games this season and hasn't found himself. On the other hand, Villanueva has never been an impact player and his contract will tie the Pistons down for years.
Gordon is an excellent player, but was a completely stupid signing by Detroit. There is no reason to pay a talented guy like that as much money as they did to sit behind Rip Hamilton. It's just ludicrous. ANd the Charlie V. signing may have been even dumber considering he has done so little in his career.
gordon makes about as much as trevor ariza, I don't think it's so much ben gordon being bad, i think he doesn't gel with the teasm. His best fit was with the bulls, where he should have resigned. As for villanueva, he's like a 4th-5th option with a 2nd-3rd option contract. same with rip and tayshaun.
Gordon is making 10 million, Trevor is MLE, so you're completely wrong. I know that Clutchfans would have burned down by now if we had signed Trevor for that much. < Good.>
Why didn't Detroit just wait until this off-season to rebuild their team. They picked the wrong off-season to do it.
he's had a couple of good games recently, but a poster above had it right, he's had quite a few injury issues.
Gordon: $10 mil Ariza: $5.8 mil Villanueva: $6.5 mil Battier: $6.8 mil Gordon makes way more than Ariza. Villanueva does not make 2nd or 3rd option money, Tayshaun Prince makes way more.
