Ben Gordon, Bulls: Of all the players who turned down lucrative contract extensions last summer, Gordon made the most mind-boggling decision. He turned down a five-year, $50 million deal that seemed above market value on a down season.

For him to recoup that money this summer seems almost impossible. And now that the Bulls have added Larry Hughes to the mix, it's no longer clear where Gordon fits into the picture.

There isn't a huge market for undersized 2-guards who have streaky jump shots. Gordon most likely will be the top restricted free agent not to have his offer matched, but he'll struggle to get a huge offer from anyone. Gordon might be better off taking the Bulls' one-year tender offer.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------

I didn't know that. What an idiot.

If Larry Hughes replaces Ben Gordon I will shat myself. 19-3-3 on 43.4% FG with a 90% FT isn't that bad. He's only 25.

I'd give the whole MLE for Ben Gordon. I think he's a more complete player, and I'd rather have him than Maggette.

We would be a legit 3rd scorer. Not sure where the $$ would come from though.

If we could somehow get Bobby Jackson and Luther off the books somehow to make room for him. I would be all for it of course.

If he doesn't accept 10Mil/yr, I'm sure his pride will be shattered with 5.9Mil :p

edit: the BYC thing changes the issue.

Here are a few updated potential deals:

    Jackson
    Novak
    2009 1st

    for

Gordon(re-signed on a back loaded deal at 6.8 mil)
    Cedric Simmons

    or

    Jackson
    Brooks
    Novak
    2009 1st

    for

Gordon(re-signed at about 7 mil and back loaded)
    Simmons
    Curry or Gray

That would actually make sense for both teams, except that the Bulls have to eat about 8 million bucks for a 1st round pick. Not sure if they would think its worth it. Luther is still pretty young and from U Illinois so that might be attractive to them.

Gordon could be too good of fit with Rose. I don't think he is going anywhere, even if he doesn't get 10 mil a year. (But seeing Maggette got that, I think that isn't bad to get Gordon for it.

I think Hinrich is the odd man out with Rose & Hughes, since Gordon is the best shooter/scorer of the bunch.

Hinrich for Jackson, Green rights, their pick of Head or Hayes (assuming we resign Landry) + #1 pick, that might be pretty good for both squads.

i'd be happy with either guy, honestly. I was just showing that they could pay him more than the MLE if they wanted.

I would LOVE to have Ben Gordon on the Rockets. Been wanting him for the last 2 years. He would be very good as a 2nd or 3rd fiddle. He's the kind of player that can carry the Rockets during scoring droughts and allow Yao and Tracy to rest more. Having him and Tracy on the court in crunch time would be lethal.

Gordon isn't a streaky shooter, he's a great shooter. The guy has a %41.6 3 point percentage over his career and is automatic at the free throw line. He just has absolutely no low post option in Chicago to give him easy shots so he has to take a lot of shots with the clock running out. Anyone who signs him for 7-8 million will get a steal.

If I were the rockets, i'd be on the phone right now with paxson, offering jackson and a 2009 first for gordon as a starting offer and going as high as adding brooks to the deal.

    Why the bulls do it:

They don't want gordon back, and they get a 1st rounder plus an expiring contract that they can flip in february for something useful.

    Why the rockets do it:

They get the 3rd scorer they need, who can light it up from distance. He allows the rockets to rest shane, yao and tracy more often. Gordon gets his 7-8 mil and the opportunity to get lots of open looks from Yao/T-Mac.

Isn't 7-8 million the amount the Bulls are trying to sign Gordon for themselves?

10 millions a year was the offer in 07 summer.

I don't think they really want him back anymore.

    You could even do:

    Jackson
    Head
    Novak
    2009 1st

    for

    Gordon(starting salary 8.36 mil)
    Simmons
    Curry or Gray

But regardless of whether the deal involves head, the rockets and bulls make natural trade partners.

These are other deals that make sense for both teams:

head, jackson, brooks, 1st rounder in 2009 for hinrich
jackson and head and maybe a pick for nocioni(reunited with a countrymen in scola, and would be a great bench scorer for the rockets at the 3)

Any reasonable deal that would net us Gordon and Hinrich? Just a crazy thought. I think the Bulls would be interested in moving both of them for the right deal.
