Well once again, I have gotten some kind of sinus infection or nasty cold. I haven't felt like doing anything all weekend long except sleeping.

I have been taking the Tylenol Cold Sinus stuff but that crap never works for me. The only thing that seems to work is antibiotics that are prescribed by a doctor.

However, unless you are literally dying, my doctor won't let you see him until a week later than you need to see him because he has so many blasted patients.

And this has to be the absolute worst time to get sick as things are going on at work that I cannot take time off for.

I still want to try to do the things that I am doing right now in working out at lunch time and playing softball at night, but since getting this cold or whatever, I just feel lethargic and fatigued. Maybe I will feel better tomorrow or the next day, but once again, I just want to stay in bed.

If this doesn't get better by Wednesday, I guess I will call my doctor and set up an appointment for the Friday of the next week, lol.

I will say one thing - once you get out of college and get a job in a real world, it seems like, at least with me, that you get sick a whole lot more than you did when you were in college. I think it is because all of these people I work with have kids, sometimes small kids, and they are constantly sick from their kids and then they pass it on to poor slobs like me.

I guess I will have to try to hang in there.

    :(

You'll get over it. Right now, I'm waiting for the results of a CT scan to determine if I have a bad sinus infection or a brain tumor. That is no fun.

i'm curious... what symtoms did you suffer to make you get up and get a ct scan? what exactly are the symtoms of a "bad sinus infection or a brain tumor"?

Wow, ZRB, I am so sorry man to hear that. I hope it is not a brain tumor. I'll have you in my prayers tonight, if that is okay with you.

Well, it is extremely likely that I don't have a tumor, but I was tested anyway. My doctor originally diagnosed me with "the start of a sinus infection", when I came in complaining of all sorts of problems. Dizziness, large and asimetrical pupils, tingling in the extremeties, etc. Anyway, I went to see a neurologist, and she reckons that I've been suffering from an anxiety disorder of some sort. My biggest fear has always been getting a brain tumor, for some reason. She did all the tests and determined that there is no pressure in my head, and nothing neurologically wrong with me. Still, she thought that the only way to ease my mind and get me out of this funk was for me to have a CT scan. So I got all geared up for that on Thursday, hoping to finally have an answer as to whether or not I'm going to die in the next few months. Then I was told that I would have to wait until Monday or Tuesday to get the results. Way to cure my f***ing anxiety...

Anyway, I haven't had any headaches, which has to be a positive sign. And the neurologist said that she wouldn't have ordered the test if I wasn't suffering such anxiety over it. She thought it would be the best way for me to get on with my life.

Still, that doesn't change the extreme nervousness I'm going through. There is still a chance that I could have some sort of brain disorder, and that scares the bloody hell out of me. I could find out I'm terminally ill tomorrow.

But that is unlikely, and if nothing else, the scan should determine if I have a bad enough sinus infection to warrant atibiotics.

This has been seven weeks of hell for me. Hopefully, it will end tomorrow, and I can get back to being painfully frustrated about the endless offseason.

Thanks, I appreciate it. And please forgive me if I made it sound like what you are going through isn't awful. I just thought this thread presented a good opportunity to vent.

    best wishes, zrb and manny.

i've been having awful headaches the past couple of years in the same back/right part of my head. hurts like hell... to the point where i try to limit my movement, stay in bed, or miss part of work. asprin never helps.

i get have panic attacks and nervous problems constantly, so i wonder if that's where the problem is stemming from. friends are always telling me that it's not normal and to get it checked out... i don't know why i haven't yet.

    whatever.

anyway, good luck on your test results :)

Nope. She came over Saturday with all my stuff from her apartment. She says she still loves me, but is convinced that I'm not "the one". :(

Manny, you need to learn how to handle doctors, imo. If this guy is always like this, maybe you should find someone else, but that wouldn't help you at the moment.

You have had the same thing before, right?
You know what knocks it out, right?
You have very important things going on at work that need your presence asap, right?

Then walk into you Doctor's office and tell the receptionist that you HAVE to see him. Tell the receptionist to let you see a nurse if she gives you any flack. Insist that you MUST see the Doctor that day/ that afternoon/that morning... whatever, but that you staying until you're worked in. Insist upon it.

Are you running a fever? That'll help a lot if you are. Be an aggressive advocate for yourself and bring something good to read. You may be there a long time, but I bet you get in.

Be sure you look like hell. (that should be easy!)

Then start looking for someone new.
    Good luck.

And damn, ZRB, I hope the results are all normal. That kind of uncertainty IS unnerving. Hang in there... you'll be fine. :)

This has been going on for seven weeks and they haven't given you antibiotics?? Maybe you should look for someone else too, after this is figured out as something they could have given you antibiotics for some weeks ago, no doubt. ;)

I'm not crazed about everyone taking antibiotics, but I think the Docs have gone overboard in some cases and now often underprescribe them. Just my opinion. I've had a lot of physical problems of one kind or another for years. I learned that you had to really be proactive and advocate for yourself. They won't do it for you, not most of the time in this day and age.

Not to be glib, but these are all potential side-effects of many of the generalized "cold and flu" medications. Have you been taking anything on a consistent basis? Specifically, psudoephadrine and diphenhydramine are known to cause anxiety, diziness, and parasthesia (the tingling), and strange pupil dialations. I think I've suffered all of these reactions at one time or another from these medications.

No, none of those. The f***ing health center still hasn't gotten back to me. Now I have to go through at least another day waiting. If they wanted to cure my f***ing anxiety, taking their sweet time to give me my test results is a great way to do it.

Come to think of it, I did take some pills with psudoephadrine back in March, but only for a few days. And these symptoms started in early April. Still, I did take them. Maybe that has something to do with it.

I've never been happier to give up alcohol for two weeks and go on medication.

Doctor: "You have a sinus infection."

    Me: "YES! Woo hoo!"

    Doctor looks around nervously...
