Last night, after the Rockets lost to the Lakers, I was pissed off. I wasn't pissed because I thought the Rockets should have won, or that a certain player didn't play well, or because of referees, or because Kobe's a piece of crap as is phil jackson. I was just pissed because the Rockets lost. Period. Then I realized that I didn't have quite that same feeling last year because the team was undermanned and expectations weren't as high. So, as I stewed in my post rockets loss pissed-off-ed-ness, I realized I missed it. I miss the sense of true expectation and belief that the Rockets can be very good and obtain a high seed, be a threat to very good teams, and perhaps with quite a few breaks, win in a big big way. It still took me a while to calm down after the loss but that familiar feeling of fandom was kind of nice. Anyone else?
I know what you're saying. But the loss didn't bother me too long because we weren't at full-strength. I actually think there were more positives than negatives to take from the game.
Quit being pissed off. Haven't you heard from the messenger? The Rockets are not contenders with Battier on the team. http://bbs.clutchfans.com/showpost.php?p=5662871&postcount=321 I really don't get too pissed at the result of one toss-up game. It's luck. If the Rockets had won it would have been because they got a little lucky and it wouldn't change the big picture much. I would only get angry if the team is simply playing crappy while not giving full effort (See Mcgrady's "Jamario Moon Game").
Nice thread, Rileydog. Agree it's nice to be back on the right path with real hopes now -- the games mean so much more. Last year was so long... just getting to a Yao-less season that we knew was about development took a long time.
I see. It sounds like the ones who are pissed showed after Battier gave them reason to cry. i was elated when they got angry.
i was not pissed off at all at the rockets. we got a noob yao ming playing with an uptempo squad, i was just glad we were up so much. i feel like yao ming has been holding back the rockets for so long and ties shouldve been cut way way back. id like to keep an open mind about him staying as a rocket but he's clumsy and doesnt mesh well with the rest of the group. d12/griffin/lopez would be awesome for this team
I was pissed off that we lost....and our half handicap play call down the stretch....we were better than the Fakers last night....and still lost....that's why I was pissed.
Some of you guys are missing the point. It's not being pissed at the Rockets. Hell, they played damn well. It's just being pissed when they lose because you really want them to freaking win every game. It's more about being a fan and how a fan feels, than about the rockets and how they played last night. Blink - consider this. Perhaps yao at 28 minutes is the right way to use him and now we have a team that doesn't need him to be out there 35 mins a game and maybe performs optimally when he isn't relied on so heavily. Yao hasn't played a game in 15 months. I thought he looked pretty decent with that in mind.
I was a little bit upset, then I thought about how well the team came back from 7 points down in under 2 minutes and realized that we are better, and we still just do not quit. I expect this team to get better and better as the year goes along....gonna be a fun ride..... DD
I rather liked last season. The low expectations reduced my stress levels while watching the games. Less shouting/cursing at the TV, for sure.
I was pissed because my classmates, who are Lakers fans, gave me crap at school today. Self-entitled fanboys....infuriating.
Thought about creating this EXACT same thread -- well done. I even remember posting last year about how losses didn't affect me; people took that as I was no longer a fan. Last night, I was beating up my couch in the final minutes and standing for the last 30 seconds. God, I missed this.
Let me say that this is a great Thread, gratz to the OP I understand the feeling, fans feel like this year we have a GREAT team that WILL win any game, we added talent, to go along the toughness we always had. Rileydog said that the frustration was not because we played very well at times, I agree, it was not exclusively because of that, but I think no one will be against the idea that, because we controlled almost 3 entire quarters, it made the loss even harder to accept But I like the feeling of we HAVE to win this game, instead of we CAN win this game, it gives that extra pressure on the fans plus team, to go further, and I think we didn´t have this for years.... But you know what is cool, I think the team and the h-town fans have higher expectations for this team then the experts/entire league, this is clearly a advantage for us, because we can contend wile being under the radar, as opposed to OKC (for example), a team that people say can contend, simply based on last years performance, it is easier to win when no one is expecting you to do so, when people study your game every day of the week, it get´s harder to win on regular bases as you did in the past. PeAcE
I get pissed off EVERY TIME the Rockets lose... I don't feel that its very healthy lol We lost a close game to the NBA Champs so if its a lose it might as well be from the best team in the NBA
all i know is these are the defending champs, who pretty much have been together for 3 yrs and just reloaded their backcourt bench..even without Bynum you know they're #1....and here where the rockets, not just competing, but leading them for almost 3 qrtrs, at their place, right after they were given their rings. and then they even almost won it. That's what i expect to see mid season, not this early. the offense looks better earlier than i expected and the only issue i saw was a lack of focus for a short, but significant stretch. I 'd say we are ahead of schedule and it only gets better from here, a lot better. Oh and we didnt even have Lowry!
