I watched "Adaptation" a couple weeks ago and just finished "Being John Malkovich" tonight. I'd heard about BJM before but never could have imagined how oddly fantastic it is. Spike Jonze and Charlie Kaufman need to do more movies, that's all there is to it. If there's anyone here into those kind of mind-warp movies, please recommend something else. I've seen and appreciate Eternal Sunshine, Memento, there must be more though, right? :]
damn dude, it took you think long to finally watch this movie? what's next? return to the planet of the apes?
Spike is currently working on "Where the Wild Things Are" with a script by Dave Eggers. Test screening feedback was that it was too dark for kids and they there are some reshoots happening. It's been delayed a couple of years now but might be out next year.

Infrequent lurker here, and big fan of the four movies you mention, especially Eternal Sunshine. (I was disappointed by the Gondry/Kaufman pairing on Human Nature.) Spoiler Brazil "Mind-warp" reminds me of this film. Terry Gilliam is in the same vein as Kaufman: not quite as verbally brilliant/funny, but visually capable of more. His Fear & Loathing with Depp & del Toro is hallucinatory too, though drug-induced; it's underrated, especially if you like Hunter Thompson. 12 Monkeys is decent. David Lynch is awesome. Mulholland Dr. with Naomi Watts is great, and relatively accessible compared to some of his other indulgences. Waking Life is trippy, if you enjoy slacker-philosophy in your Saturday morning cartoons. Though absent most all traces of humor, Ridley Scott's director's cut of Blade Runner might fall under the same mind- (or in this case, consciousness-) f--- sensibility. Rashomon could be the ultimate film mind-f---. Cool: looks like Kaufman's directorial debut is due out in a few months. Anybody recommend anything else? I will pretty obviously already be hitting up Blockbuster.
I saw this amost ten years ago at a free screening at U of H. A crowded auditorium with a bunch of other college kids is a pretty fun place to see a movie. The only things I can think of are A Scanner Darkly, Stranger Than Fiction and Me, You and Everyone You Know, although the last one isn't as "trippy" and might be a bit controversial for your taste.
"It's alcohol that burns, but doesn't burn up. Lighter fluid just burns. And then I thought, 'It's okay. It's better this way.'" [Nods head.] I haven't seen Big Fish or Stranger than Fiction, and haven't come across Scanner Darkly yet (though I like the Before Sun___s, Dazed & Confused, Waking Life, Slacker). Thanks; will check these out.
"Go" was good Mullholland Dr. was fantastic, lesbian scene was topping on the cake A Beautiful Mind - not really a mind warp film for viewers, but main character is Requiem For a Dream Jacob's Ladder - very disturbing Fight Club - cult classic Betrayal
I'll second the recommendation of GO. I remember when that came out, the previews made it seems like something else entirely. Turned out to be pretty good. I wouldn't call BIG FISH a mind-**** movie...although it is fantastic and Tim Burton's best (in my opinion). Definitely see that one if you haven't already, finals. STRANGER THAN FICTION is a good, light-hearted mind-**** movie. At least as far as mind-**** movies go. Give it a look.
Some great recommendations, thanks! I've seen and loved Fear and Loathing, Stranger than Fiction, Big Fish, Requiem for a Dream, Fight Club, and love love love LOVED the Fountain (Clint Mansell added so much to that movie as well as Requiem). I've heard of everything else mentioned but never got around to watching them. I need Netflix or something...
