Was anybody else lucky enough to score some of this? I've been following #DR9 on Twitter all day and when someone said they had it available at Spec's on Westheimer and Fondren I was able to convince my chick to go look for me. They didn't have any on display at that point but luckily a nice lady working there brought her a 6'er from the last case they had in the back. I still haven't actually tried the beer yet but it seem to be getting positive reviews. How were you able to get it, and what do you think of it?
completely forgot!!! called my closest spec's just now, and they sold out yesterday. looks like i missed out.
the whip-in in austin has it, but they are selling single bottles at $3.99 a pop (limit 2 per customer). i bought one and drank it last night - took about 45 minutes to drink it and i was pretty tipsy afterwards. i was at home thankfully, b/c i definitely couldnt have driven. its very strong, but smooth and drinkable - not as pumpkin-y or spice-y as i would have hoped, but you can definitely taste it. its almost got hints of vanilla and chocolate too (i think). if you can, get the anchor christmas beer - one of the best winter/christmas beers ive had in awhile.
i really want to try this one, sounds like a perfect beer for this nice cold snap we're having... i wonder if randalls or the heb near my house are carrying it?
i have a 2007 and a 2008 in my fridge... anchor christmas ale, that is. definitely my favorite christmas ale. i preferred the 07, but the 08 was good as well. i will be picking up a 6er of that soon.
I was lucky enough to pick up 12 cases and 2 growlers from the Alamo Drafthouse.. Definitely not safe to drink more than 2 in one setting... It almost felt like black friday for beer connoisseur.. I went on a scavenger hunt and felt like a kid again..
Drinking it for the first time right now. It definitely has a strong aroma of pumpkin pie IMO. What is realyl surprising me is the alcohol taste. It feels like a little too much at this point. This beer might be better if aged another 6 months, but to be honest tonight I'm a little disappointed. It's not bad, but not as good as I hoped. I'll let at least one bottle age for a while and review it again. On the plus side, there is A LOT of alcohol in this beer. I think it's 11%. I can't imagine drinking more than 2 of these in one sitting and still being safe to drive home.
neither of those - it doesnt taste like a belgian beer, which im generally not a fan of - that distinctive, bitter taste isnt my thang. its tastes like a really strong stout - as someone said, you can really taste the alcohol in it. the guy at the whip-in said this was his favorite yet. i think he told me they use bits of tree in the brewing process and each year they use a different tree. you can definitely tell in the aroma.
I called this place in baytown where I buy my beer but they are sold out. They told me they would call me tommorow when its back in stock. Im going to Kroger's in a few minutes, hopefully they sell it there.
Man I HATE pumpkin flavored beers and I hate the almost metallic alcohol tasting beers. So you pretty much sealed the deal for me with that review. Never gonna try it.
How many more did they have in stock? I may stop by there at lunch tomorrow. NM- Saw you picked up the last. Beeyatch. Throw one back for me!
I'm a heavy beer drinker, and I discovered that drinking two sixers of this will make you a zombie on the toilet the next day, with no memories of the night before. Good times!
And I also forgot to say, (According to the guy) that they probably will not be getting anymore orders. They hid it in the back and I had to ask for it. Just drank one and it's pretty strong. I would be buzzing pretty hard after drinking 2 or 3. The pumpkin flavor is pretty strong, with a hint of chocolate. I like it, but probably would taste even better with age.
Same here, I really dislike that metallic taste...you might as well be sucking on a mouthful of pennies while drinking a bud light.
