Well, off the top of my head I can think of about 756,678 people/artitsts/bands. So to answer your question...yes.
You mean Rod Beck? I don't know, he had a pretty good SO/BB ratio, and his ERA was decent. He sucked in the postseason, though... http://www.baseball-reference.com/b/beckro01.shtml
I like Beck. He's not Wayne Newton great...but he's also not Tiny Tim bad. Hey, he's got two turntables and a microphone...so he can't be all that bad.
But seriously...what makes Beck overrated if you don't mind my asking? I can hardly think of many artists in the past 15 years who have managed to balance critical and commercial success as much as Beck. He doesn't go throught motions, is always trying something different, adopts and blends several styles/genres. On top of that he's a pretty humble, unpretentious guy. What is there not to like? I'd put Beck as one of the top 10 artists of the past 15 years...and if I thought about it more he may even be near the top of that list.
oh, i don't hate him. in fact i have a lot of his music. thing is, he comes off like a designer as opposed to an artist. seems like he's trying to solve a problem instead of an exploring what it means to be alive. basically it doesn't move me. it's all a bunch of bells and whistles with little substance. if i didn't think he was talented and intelligent, i wouldn't have bothered with this thread. maybe he's just an underachiever.
That's a fair response. The thing I like about Beck is that he reminds me so much of Neil Young in that Beck just like Neil has 2 dominant styles that he likes to go back and forth to. Neil has the acoustic, country tinged sound that was on albums like "Harvest", "Comes a Time", "Prairie Wind", and "Harvest Moon". Then there is the hard-rocking style (usually with Crazy Horse) in albums like "Everybody This Is Nowhere", "Zuma", "Rust Never Sleeps", and "Ragged Glory". For Beck, he has the soft acoustic side that was on albums like "Mutations" and "Sea Change" (probably my favorite album by him) and then there is the hip-hop influenced, more rockin', partyin' side in albums like "Odelay", "Midnite Vultures", and "Guero". I still haven't taken to his latest album like I did with "Guero" but I have little doubt that it will grow on me. The only other artists that I eagerly anticipate new releases besides Beck are (in no particular order) Radiohead, Wilco, Sigur Ros, Bloc Party, Interpol as well as oldies like Neil Young and Bob Dylan.
Not overrated at all. One of the best songwriters to come out of the mid-90's. Check out Sea Change if you don't believe me.
