OK your X's & O's guys - one of the difficulties that the Rockets have had trouble with is adjusting to zone defenses, especially those that have pushed us to play a perimeter game on offense.

Have you seen plays that the Rockets have used this year that have been successful in defeating zones?

What would you have the Rockets do to combat zone defenses?

Ball movement ball movement ball movement. Swing the ball around the perimeter have our big guys flash to the ball side of the court and find holes. Cato is NOT the guy you want on the court against a zone defense...you want MoT and his shooting ability.

There are a few basic fundamentals that teams can use to break a zone.

    1. Ball and player movement will make zone defenders confused on whose responsibility it is to cover the opponent.

    2. Ball movement can also be used to get an open shot easier, because the ball will always arrive before the zone defense can shift into position.

    3. Overloading a specific area with multiple players. One zone defender has a hard time guarding two players.

    4. Hitting the outside shots. Great outside shooting will break a zone every time.

    5. Running a lot of fast breaks. It’s easier to play man on man during a fast break.
