Just recently grew myself a beard, had the lower than the lower lip tickler plenty of times before, the odd Goaty and always have the sideburns/mutton chops but decided just to go the whole beard, well still shave on the neck area below the jaw line.... it has gained a mix reaction, personally i really the look of it and the associated reduced need to shave, several of my female friends think it looks hot.... anyhoo I have no idea how to deal with beard management... I really want to keep it quite short and up till now have been using a comb and razor to keep it short.... what tools do i need to trim my beard also is there any products i can use for my skin and also maybe to soften the hair, that would certainly help Mrs Smeg when comes around kissing time....
Find a hair stylist/dresser supply shop and buy a good electric hedge clipper. (beard trimmer! ) The cheap ones most often seen at large department stores really don't last, from my experience. I prefer mine really short as well. Keeping it as soft as you can? Have Mrs. Smeg massage it with edible lubricant.
ive got my "winter beard" kickin'. just starting to fill in and i must say, im looking pretty manly. i shave my head every 2 or 3 weeks and when i do that i just get the beard w/ the clippers and a #2 guard. you gotta keep it clean though. dont let it go wild - i shave below the jawline and than even the upper cheek area. you better believe that my beard comes correct - i dont let that stuff get outta control yo! beards are in beards are in its alotta fun growing hair on your chin
I've been at a minimum goatee for about 9 years. I've been beard 85% of the time for the last 2 years. the other added benefit of the beard is, if it looks good on you, and you can grow it fast, you can go from beard, to goatee to whatever and keep changing your look, including not keeping it well kept every once in a while - feels good to go back-country long haired beard and then go chop some wood and kill a deer with your bare hands. Anyway, I just use a $35 head and beard trimmer which came with a lot of attachments. I usually let it grow for a week or so and trim it down to a 1 or 1.5.
ive had have about a fistful of chin hair, and a whole lot everywhere else on the face. the other day, trying to trim it here and there, and the next thing i know ive got a number 3 all over my face. kinda pissed, but it looks much better
Hehe. This thread came up just in time. For the first time in my life I'm letting my beard grow out. More of a goatee style. And was wondering what I should use to keep it short too.
My wife has never seen me without at least a goatee, and she's known me for 30 years. Pretty crazy, huh?
my dad has had a beard since i don't know when... is suspect for at least 40 years straight, wonder what that does to you skin
I pretty much have gone with a full beard with the exception of a couple of days a month for the last year or so. But thats just because Im lazy and don't want to shave. The wife likes it though.
This is basically what I have done for the last ten or so years. The goatee makes me look meaner and more "alterno" but I actually ended up liking the beard better. I don't keep it full - shave the upper cheek and just below jawline - but it works for me and I have gotten a lot of "you look better with a beard" comments.
I've had a full beard on and off for about ten years. I prefer to let it grow out wildstyle (what's the point of having a beard if you have to screw with it all the time). But I work for myself so if keeping it trimmed is a concern just find a good barbershop. That's something I think men have gotten away from. Zip in, have them take care of it. It usually dirt cheap. As far as the hair itself, I use a shampoo/conditioner 2 in 1 anyway so I just use that on my beard instead of soap. Soap dries your skin out generally so the conditioner will make your beard pretty soft.
That's funny...George "Sulu" Takai (sp) was on Howard Stern today talking about coming out of the closet recently. He talked about the female "beards" he kept in the 60's and 70's back in his Star Trek days.
I always have my beard trimmed when I get my hair cut. (what there is of it!) If something special is coming up, I'll go in just for the beard. They know what they're doing.
Yes, I will be around. Edit: incidentally, it seems there are a disproportionately numbered bearded folk on this board. It is rare on a daily basis to see beards...especially on men under 50.
