No so long ago, people were declaring the Suns the wave of the future, especially in the high-flying western conference, and guys like Yao Ming and Shaq dinosaurs.

Does it seem that the tide has turned?

It's not suprising that Lakers got another 7 foot star in Gasol-- Phil Jackson always likes big guys. He played with big PGs and his strategy vs. the Suns in playoffs recently have been to out-muscle them in the post.

But the Suns and the Warriors both got older slower, but bigs in Shaq and Webber? Is it an admission that while all the running and Nash Show and upsetting Mavs are fun, there comes a time when you have to face brawny guys like Duncan, Boozer, Yao, Okur etc. and you better bring some meat if you don't want to get crushed?

It's not just them, either.... Chris Kaman is breaking out, Greg Oden is coming up... out East, there is Dwight Howard. Big Z (and his not very small friends, Varejao and Gooden, not to mention Lebron) were in the finals.

The biggies sure seem to be making a comeback.

In the last few years, we've been talking about how the Rockets are going to beat the quick small teams... Maybe the focus should shift a little now?

I have always thought that anybody who thinks this team needs to "run" to win is an idiot.

Other than the Suns, Nets, Mavs, and maybe the Kings, I can't remember ANY "running" team in the last 10 years or so that even made it to the conference finals. Only one made it to the finals in a weak ass conference, and none won a championship.

I think Adelman can help our offense... but his goal should NOT be to force a fast breaks or run the ball up the court at every opportunity. That is why bigs will always be valuable. Half court basketball usually is just better.

... None of this is to say that a team shouldn't be able to execute on a fastbreak, or be athletic... just that a team should not try to fool people into thinking they're a better offensive team than they are by running and gunning constantly.

Pao Gasol and Brawny should never be used in the same sentence.

I think Shaq = halfcourt offense option rather than just Shaq=Brawny.

It wasn't the fastbreaks that allowed Golden State to beat Dallas, as Dallas has enough athletes to run too. The problem was Dallas didn't have good enough low-post play to punish GS for going small. Dirk is more of a high-post player, and he, like Yao, has trouble with quick doubles and fronting.

In any case, yeah I agree that Big Ball is making a comeback, because teams (especially the Rockets! ) are starting to figure out ways to defeat post-fronting and quick traps. Hopefully this will continue to get better!

Steve Nash and Chris Paul beg to differ. Paul even punched the last Big Ball he saw, just ask Julius Hodge.

Dictator Stern will see to it that more rules are implemented so that the "boring" fundamentally sound, post playing big men are further neutered and replaced with perimeter players who fall down like they have been shot every time a defender touches them.

But hey, it's about attracting more casual fans to generate revenue no matter how badly the quality of player suffers.

You talking about the 05/06 season? Cuz 04/05 playoffs we had no Alston and Howard was on the mends due to the heart problem.

Wesley was a very serviceable player that year. Everyone talks about the White Boy Super Squad + James, but Wesley did what he was supposed to do - man the point when needed, defend willingly (probably the best of all the guards on the team) and hit the open 3 at a respectable clip.
