With only two games left in the season, I think that we can all safely say the Rockets will not be in the playoffs. So I have two questions: 1. Who do you want to win the Finals 2. Who do you think will win the Finals Now, this may not seem like it has anything to do with the Rockets and is, therefore, in the wrong forum. To that I say, "HA!" I don't know why, but it seems appropriate. This obviously belongs here because the winner will be dethroned next year by the upstart Rockets (sorry Jeff, but there needs to be a little room for rabid fanaticism). So, what do you think? The first person who predicts it correctly will win a trip for two to the Bahamas, or a big "Way to go!" e-card - whichever is easier for me to set up. ------------------ rimbaud post-a-thon 2000
Who do I WANT to win the finals?? hmmm.....The ROCKETS!!! Oh yeah...thats right....they're out of the pic huh?? DAMN!!! oh well...lets get emotional then. Jazz---No f##kin way!!! Lakers-- I would rather bath in a sewer than see them little turds win. Portland--Another title for Quitten?? NO WAY! Seattle--I hate Gary Payton..so..NO! New York--hmmm...no thanks Miami---I'll pass I could go on....but it would just get boring. So I say I would *like* to see SA or Minn. win it. but I think that LA will(as much as it pains me to say that) I think the Shaq-mobile smells blood and it's gonna get real messy in the playoff waters. ------------------ President and Founder of the W.W.B-H.A.! Go Rockets
1. I will be rooting for the Timberwolves to win even though they have no chance. After them, i'd have to go with the Texas Spurs. 2. Unless Shaq, Kobe, or Rice gets injured seriously, the Lakers are as certain to win the championship as Shaq is guaranteed the mvp. You want a conspiracy: whatever team Phil Jackson is coaching will win the NBA championship...until he retires. on a side note: i saw some pole which had jackson in the lead for coach of the year. yeah, well, how good of a coach do you have to be when you've got jordan and pippen or shaq and kobe and rice. come on. i'm not saying he's a bad coach, because i'm sure he's good and he seems to have helped shaq out alot. but, there's a heck of a lot of other coaches out there who would look just as good had they coached the teams phil has had the chance to coach. you want coach of the year, there's only two choices by my standars, rudy or doc. that's it. two coaches who took teams with little expectations and made sure they gave it 150 percent every night when they could have easily succumed to the pressure and died. THAT is what makes a great coach. ------------------ if you are reading this signature because you are looking for something funny or witty to make you chuckle you have been fooled because this is the most unfunny and unwitty signature ever but i find it absolutely hilarious that you've read it this far
Excuse me, but there is only one Pole--so you must have seen some poll. ------------------ stop posting my damn signature
Who do I think will win the championship? The Lakers Who do I want to win the championship? Now this one's harder. Let me list why I don't want specific teams to win it. 1. Portland - After how the Pippen experiment went, not a chance in hell I want them to win. 2. Utah - I'd prefer Stockton and Malone to go out together not having won a ring ever. 3. Miami - I hate Pat Riley and I think he's overrated. Luckily, I think they have no chance anyways, but no. 3. San Antonio - If they win it back to back, then David Robinson and Tim Duncan will be thought of in the same class as Olajuwon, and that ain't true, so NO. 4. Indiana - Although I like Larry Bird, I absolutely hate Jalen Rose. I hope he goes his entire career without even a Finals appearance. 5. Los Angeles - Think of the hype. 6. New York - They're New York. None of the other teams even have a chance, IMHO. So, to have to pick the lesser evil is never a fun thing, but here's who I'd prefer to win it all: The Lakers - Yeah, I know what ya'll are thinking. DREAMer has gone insane. But, no I haven't. I actually have a reason for wanting them to win. The Lakers have already won it all many times, so them winning it again won't be such a big deal. Plus, they are favored to win, if they win it people will just say, "Well, they were supposed to win it." Plus, Shaq is having a MVP year, and Kobe is no longer as annoying as he was when he entered the league. My second choice is... (Hang onto your jockstraps, this one's even more amazing coming from me) The Knicks - What the hell? Did I just say that? Me the same guy who in 1994 used the slogan "F*@k the Knicks" more times than a supercomputer could count? Yeah, I said it. But, they aren't the same Knicks. I think Van Gundy is a good coach. Sure, he looks like a troll, but he gets his players to produce. Plus, I like many of their players: Alan Houston, Latrell Sprewell, Marcus Camby, and to a lesser extent Larry Johnson and (YES) Patrick Ewing. Ewing has played well, and that whole team really has no reason to be winning, but they do. I like their intensity and their defense (.422 opponent FG%, and 90.4 opponent scoring average) Maybe, the Rockets not making the playoffs has severely damaged my brain, but I've watched more NBA basketball other than the Rockets than I have in about 10 years. (Not that I haven't watched the Rockets) ------------------ I have a dream.........his name's Hakeem.
I want the Orlando Magic to win it. I think it would be great for them to win without Shaq or Penny. Besides, we could get another draft pick this year. Who will win it? The La...the Lake...sorry, can't do it. ------------------
Oh, no no no no no no no and no! As much as I like rooting for underdogs and despite the fact that I'm presently going to school in Florida, I cannot root for the Magic for one very good reason: free agency and trades (okay, technically that's 2 ). If the team that has one of the hugest pools of money to spend on free agents wins, then you can bet that the Rocks can kiss whatever miniscule chance of getting an impact player like Duncan they had bye-bye. Personally I'd like the Hornets to win, just cause I've always liked the team and their fans. Since that isn't real likely to happen, I'll be rooting for the Spurs for 2 reasons: they're from Texas and they have the kind of quiet class and dignity that is reminiscent of the Rockets. But the damn Lakers will probably take it all . . . *goes back to working on Shaq voodoo doll* ------------------ [This message has been edited by Launch Pad (edited April 17, 2000).]
Who do I think is going to win --- Lakers Who do I hope wins ---- Bucks. Hey u never said we had to be realistic. Plus Sam is still one of my favorite players. And I'll be always cheering for him. ------------------
LA and SA have the best defenses. SA's is still clearly the best now that Elliott is back playing well. Let me be the first to predict, SA will beat LA and pull a repeat from the #5 seed position. Defense will win this championship. SA will clog up Jackson's overrated triple post. And Kobe/Shaq still don't have the moxie to get through a rough playoff series.
I really want Indiana to win it all after they were so close a couple of years back (plus Larry Legend is my hero). I think that they have a shot although a long one it is. I think that the Lakers look pretty tough but I am picking San Antonio to repeat. ------------------
I know this won't be popular but I think (and hope) the Lakers win. 1. They haven't had it real easy. They had to add vets to the team (Harper & AC Green) to help them gel. 2. Shaq is the leagues most dominant player, and as in the 90's the best player wins the ring. 3. Phil Jackson again used his "Zen" to bring a disappointing team the last couple years to the most dominant team in the league. 4. They didn't panic & trade Rice when things didn't look good in the off season and the beginning of the year this year. 5. Kobe has taken to the role of being the #2 option (like Scottie in Chicago). I never was a big fan of Kobe, but he played well this year (offensively & defensively). ------------------
This playoff race if going to be more about who loses...than who wins. Obviously..since there won't be a Rocket team in the mix, I could care less who wins. But it's gonna be rather fun seeing the look on certain faces when the buzzer sounds on their season. ------------------
If LA wins then Costas will call Jacko "The Greatest Coach in the History of the League" or something equally stupid. Gag. At least this year us fans in Houston don't have to deal with Pay-Per-View. Yay! How can any Rocket fan love Larry Bird? He beat us in the Finals twice. Once as a freaking Rookie! Granted if he had not done so, the titles in 94 and 95 may not have happened or would not have been as special. [This message has been edited by outlaw (edited April 17, 2000).]
who do i want? lets see Lakers-phil is full of himself Jazz- Stockton shouldnt get one especially after ruining our hopes after 98. Blazers- hahah please.. Suns-not even worth rooting for... little hope Timberwolves-love garnett's intensity Spurs-Tired of watching D.rob's fake emotion and two rings means he'd be mentioned possibly in the same breath of Dream. Sounds like i hate him? not really Sonics-not even worth rooting for.. little hope So in order wolves, suns, sonics, spurs, jazz, lakers, blazers Who do i think wins it? Lakers ------------------ [This message has been edited by wizard (edited April 17, 2000).]
oops forgot about the east? Will be rooting for detroit-hill is smooth but frontcourt sucks. Indiana-failed too many times hard not to root for them ...plus barkley and miller are good buds. New York-like spree and houston but ewing had his glory moment in college. Milwakee-will be rooting for them Toronto- Just to young to advance.. Miami-failed too many times hard not to root for them Charlotte- yes will be rooting for them 76ers-hell yeah love them In order 76ers,Charlotte,Detroit, Milwakee,Toronto,Indiana,Miami, new York. who do i think will win the east? Indiana over 76ers if possible..unluckily the reward will be thrashed by the lakers ------------------
I've said this before and I'll say it again. I think that Utah and La will make it to the conference finals and will beat the crap out of each other. Whoever wins will be pummeled by the Pacers, I hope. If its Philly or NY that pummel them, I would be ok with that also. I just want to see the looks on their collective faces (especially Shaq, Kobe, Malone and John "anusmouth" Flopton) after they get swept by the totally "weaker" eastern conference. ROckS ------------------
Since my beloved Rockets won't be gracing the NBA with their presence in the playoffs this year, I am NOT pulling for anyone in the Western Conference. So, I am pulling for 2 teams in the East, the Bucks and the 76er's. Yea they are both REAL long shots, but that just makes it that much more interesting IF one of them makes it. ------------------ The lottery sucks!
Wizard, "Spurs-Tired of watching D.rob's fake emotion" -- lol I always thought he learned that emotion in his Naval Leadership 101 class at the academy. I remember him saying how his teammates rely on his leadership, and he can't let the down. Still, 2 rings for Mr. Robinson is better than one for Shaq. SA's the only team with the defense to stop them. Sorry Larry, while Jalen would humiliate Kobe, and Reggie would get last laughs on Rice, you lost your shot when you lost Davis.
