wooo-hooo, my first political thread in Hangout. I know, maybe this should go in the feedback. But, I feel I'm missing out on this yelling Hangout stuff. Given the recent "Confrontation", and "Offended" threads, let's talk about Freedom of Speech.

Boy, two days of seaping b****ing via thread titles. Does that mean Clutch has no more fingers left to stick into the dike. I hope we don't get a flood of Thread Titles laced with insults, like the Portland Oregonian.

I know Clutch knows I believe in self-policing of the bbs, but lately I've been accused of trying to be the Bey of the board trying to penetrate the armour of Clutch and his Austinites [IMG] . So, I'd like to know what everyone's feelings are about "Freedom of Posting" on the BBS.

The question is not whether you like other's taste in posting. It is about the times people actually start calling out a troll for booting. The clear times when a presumed majority of the board wants a thread closed.

Here's some parameters, although as Rimbaud likes to say, don't be a wimp and just pick your favorite....tell us about your beliefs.

    -------------------------------------------

    1. Shut up heypartner, Behad and mango, Clutch has it under control,
    2. Absolute Freedom of posting
    3. Anything goes except childish cursing
    4. Cursing and insults don't bother me as long as no new threads to express it like at the Oregonian
    5. Self-policing and peer pressure is effective, because even if the policers get tiresome, we can get them to stop.

    -------------------------------------------

I know there is no real answer. Just some understanding by the regulars is in order.

My take is: when I see a flood occurring, I like to try to draw attention away from it (my favorite is the "pushing down...carry on" posts that raise other threads above the thread in question), or distract it by posting incessantly in that thread directed at no one, until the poster himself disarms.

I do not like to see Admins resort to Closing threads as much as we ask them to. I think that is a patch and is likely to cause a recurring attack, often from the same person under a different IP. I think the Admins do a great job of judgement.

But with Rockeem, I actually felt the boy would recover, and same with Say_Jack, once they realize they are the only people doing it on this board, and it isn't cool. I don't think half of the times Behad goes after a wild poster at night, that he even thinks the kid should be banned. Same with me.

These "ban-able" offenses are probably going to increase with popularity of the BBS, and a quick trigger finger might not be the answer, overtime.

    What do you all think?

I'm for allowing anything that isn't a complete troll. Obviously, some threads aren't appropriate... like the "Francis and Mobley are gay!" thread.

I just never want our board to become like the ESPN boards. They turned me off to sports boards for a year, before I found clutchcity.net. It's entirely possible that annoying twirps could outnumber the vets someday. In that instance, maybe censorship should occur... until then... I like the free for all.

I hate the stupid threads. now mind you i recently started a thread about Mountain dew. kinda stupid huh??

but i mean the Rockeem threads just now.. is that really necessary?? hell is this thread necessary.. well i guess no, but in a way you are just b****ing too [IMG]

I remember(well it wasnt too long ago, so if i forgot i would have reall issues) back wheni started that people were b****ing about sewbies with low post counts thinging what they typed mattered. this stuff bothered me, because i was a newbie. i was however posting intellinget(well I think they are intelligent [IMG]) comments ON topic. but the comments made were discouraginf me, a new poster from makinf any contribution, let alone anu intellinegt comment. it is the new young pups who are trying to get a bunch of posts that want to buck the system a bit weho are gonna go out calling behad a b**** fornthe hell of it. hell I could go and call ZRB a b**** at somepoint, and I may be accepted douing it. ZRB kindof enjoys his role as BBS whipping boy. he also puts himself in a position to take some flak. noe going after behad for no reason in multiple threads is just STUPID, and annoying. those threads were pushing down some really great topics. there have ben a real plethora fo new threads lately. I kind of like it. but only beacuse there is alaways something worth commenting on. I hate that the thread about racing in the streets has been pushed so low. I hate that the Janna bush thread is down there. I hate thaat a good topic cab dye jsut because behad may be a b**** or not, because I love Mountain dew, because Lhutz needed 5 therads to show that he is amusing(althought i really do enjoy his rants), and because every week a poster has to let everyone know who the 5 hottest chicks are today. than another thread tomorrow.

ok im done!! wait NO im not.... nope I guess I am.

    happy posting

    Peace

    VOR,

That is the most unintelligible post by an intelligent poster that I've read since proofing my last post.

Also, I did name names...like you like, right?

It was a struggle, but I finally read myself through this thread. Yes, it was very difficult.

I don't mind the stupid threads that talk about weird stuff like cats and mountain dew. Hey at least it's original.

The only posters I dont care for are the ones that just call people names or start threads just to bash other people.

The difference between the Behad bash and the ZRB bash was Behad was just being called a b****. Also threads were being made just to bash him. I can only think of a couple zrb thread that were devoted to him, and they were in the feedback forum complaining about him. I don't remember anyone calling him a b**** or anything.

Where is ZRB anyway? It seems like he hasn't been posting as much. (NEVERMIND, hehe)

ZRB has been quiet since he realized that his posts were more right than wrong. he will be back in force when we are doing well next season [IMG] probably during a winning streak [IMG]

*CRACK* Oh, of course I enjoy it.

Anyway, about free speech. The way I see it, if a poster isn't being seriously insulted in the thread, and it isn't just a purely stupid thing like the "gay" threads, or the "George W Bush is a good president" threads, then it should be accepted.

I've been posting fairly regularly still. I was away on Monday, and today my IP was down. Other than that, I think I still post quite a bit. Maybe with the team being lotto bound, there isn't as much to talk about. I don't know, I feel like I'm still posting regularly. I'm just not posting as much crap anymore. Most people already know how I feel about Cuttino, Rudy, politics etc.

It seems like everything is going smoothly here. Policing by peer pressure seems to work fairly well. People usually rise to the occassion if their peers give and deserve respect.

We'll always have people like rockeem (sp?) that end up becoming nuisances and beg to be kicked, and the admins eventually give in.

    Works great!

The Self Policing and Admins only get involved went someone really steps over the mark System seems to work well enough and even manages to try put a leash on me a times.

The odd part is that I'm not sure what I did to piss Rockeem off. I just asked him (he's back under an id of Rockeem').

As for ZRB, I never once called for his banishment. I asked him to leave several times, but of his own volition. The difference between ZRB and Rockeem is that ZRB came back at me with intelligent responses, instaed of this "b****" stuff. And I really don't have a problem with ZRB outside of game nights. (You really need to work on that bi-polar personality during games, though [IMG] ).

Anyway, this is my last night to post heavily for awhile, and I'm really tired of the topic being me. Where's a good Anna vs. Britney thread when you need it?

The only thing that bothers me is when people try to dictate what gets posted in his/her thread. Oh, and heypartner is a whiny b****.

I would just like to see the "Free Post" eliminated. If a thread is stupid enough to merit a "Free Post" then let it fall into obscurity, not keep dragging it back to the top. I may not be as recognizable around here as some of my contemporaries(although I did get a nice compliment on my game action talk in the solar panel fiasco), but I have been around for a while. It is true that many posters look at post counts as a measure of the poster. Should this be the case, no. But since it is it is decieving to see the early Francis3 with the thousands of free posts. Francis3 has more recently, IMO, become a much better poster and it has nothing to do with post counts. Some of the greats don't post much at all anymore, pops, thecabbage, LHutz. Others do Jeff, Will, BK, HeyP. I think the best way to eliminate the free post is to eliminate the post count. Now that they are in the 5000 ranges, isn't it silly to keep counting. Let us be judged not by the number of our posts, but instead by their content.

But I have enjoyed rapidly blowing past everyone with my post count.

I think the current system works pretty well. I say keep with it until something gets too out of hand. I hope this day never happens, but who knows.

I have no problem with post count being turned off to discourage hyper-posting. It wasn't readily visible with each post when I started and there wasn't this same kind of posting then.

I missed what you did, heyp, that earned the "bey" title...only saw the unintelligible aftermath. I, therefore, cannot speak to your actions.

I have to agree with Rimmy, the current system works pretty well and we should stick with it. Of course with the growing popularity of this board more and more trolls will come and the policing will in time have to get tighter. For now though it can stay the same.

Should a person be able to call someone a b****? No. That is not exercising free speech; that is just ignorant.

Police yourself! If you can't, then someone should do it for you i.e. admins, behad, mango, or clutchcity as a whole.

I personally cannot stand entering a thread only to see name calling, and I usually try to defend the person attacked, especailly if the member is a good poster.

I'm down for the no post count.

In fact, I will move myself to 1 at the end of the season, and I will bet anyone they can't guess who I am. If you miss, you must allow me to change your moniker.

    Bet me....let's make this fun.

If no one guesses who I am by camp, I retain heypartner. Fiction is fun...do you all really think I can't out fiction rimbaud, and maybe even the pervertably venerable LHutz.

    bet me rimbaud!

I am amazed at the sentiment shown in this thread.

    The current system is OK.

I thought that you already had a bet down on your moniker with Cisco and Achebe about the SF position.

I do have a bet with Cisco...you are the judge. Achebe wimped out and wouldn't accept original rules.

What I want is rimbaud, LHutz and you to bet me on guessing my summer moniker...and any other Austinites with guts!!
