This is the most diverse the board has ever been.

The numbers of conservatives and liberals is pretty evenly split.

Posters range in age from 13 to like 98(thanks, DoD).

People from all kinds of occupations post here- software designers, political columnists, teachers, and even a stand-up comedian!

There are posters from all over the U.S. and even some from different continents(North & South America, Europe, Asia, Australia)!

We've got conspiracy nuts, tree-hugging hippies, right-wing gun freaks, and everything in between. ;)

Who would've thought that Clutch's empire would stretch across the world all those years ago when the furthest posters away from Houston were Almu(New York) and Jovi(Germany)? Now the sun never sets on the Clutch BBS.

So here's my question, if by some freak twist of fate a plague wipes out everybody on Earth except for CC.net posters, could we function as a society if rounded up together?

sure, but with the small number of women on board... we'd have trouble procreating... :D

i don't think the women want that responsibility!

What would happen to poor Kim and Shanna? :D

    (And of course, outlaw!)

What type of class system would develop? Would posts counts matter? Would we annoint Clutch as king, or elect a president?

Also, the intelligence level of this board is much higher than society's average. Although we may call each other idiots alot, ccneters are pretty smart and communicate their points very well. If you need to be convinced, just visit harmony-central.com and check out their open forum.

Yeah, but you act like some of the clowns' chances would improve if we had more women on the bbs. :D

    AntiSonic,

I used to prop you up as one of the best pbp guys in the game chats and you turn into a meanie on me. I hope you are without a PC for another 5 years. ;)

This board also doesn't represent well the poor (who can't afford/don't have access to computers) and the computer illiterate (who don't use computers).

judging by some of the "help request" threads posted around here, i'd have to question the latter part of your assessment.

With our superior intellects, we could rebuild this city on a foundation of reason and enlightenment. We could turn ClutchCity into a utopia.

I think the makeup of the board is an artifact of most of us being from the South. There's a large faith based conservatism in the South... and then you have people that freak out and fly to the other end of the spectrum.

In the rest of the US, people seem to fall in a healthy middle ground. Their upbrings aren't so emotionally turbulent, where every issue becomes a vehicle for salvation and self righteousness.

I would suggest that we probably do not represent the cross-section of society... but the ghee that floats to the top from one specific region, w/ the rare spice thrown in from here and there.

I'm finding myself spending more time in the hangout reading posts than the Rockets forum. Pretty cool for a B-Ball sight to have so many interesting people and opinions. Could you expect any less from Rockets fans.:D

You speak only the truth Behad. :D

Upon review, I'm not sure if I was thinking of a faith based conservatism or a conservatism based faith. Forcing functions get you published, but the real world is described with feedback loops.

Did you guys listen to totn on Wed? or Thurs? They interviewed two religious leaders... one of which represented southern baptists and one of which represented episcopalians/methodists and lutherans. They were diametrically opposed when it came to the war, and tried to seek justification of their beliefs in scripture when describing a just war...

eventually the host hinted at calling bs and labeling their arguments as merely a sign of their political beliefs. It was toooooo revealing.

I don't think I could live with the intellectual arrogance of rimbaud, the overwhelming hostility of RM95, or the idiocy of Batman Jones. ;)

    Nomar,

Your post does raise a related question.

In the past, you frequented the Nether Worlds (Chat & Fantasy/Sim Forum) of the CC BBS. Lately, we have been blessed with your appearances in the Hangout Forum on a regular basis. What has prompted this change from your previous routine?

I'm from the South. My wife is from the South. We've lived in DC, Atlanta, and a couple of western states. My wife responds to folks who come at her with anti-southern bias by saying, "No, the South does not have more stupid people than other parts of the country. It's just that the stupidity is better organized."
