In a letter to Francis as a concerned fan, what advice would you give him on his turnover problem (current assist to rurnover ratio of 1.4 to 1). We all know he is capable of Iverson points, put if he wants to play point guard in the long-term, he needs to clean up his handle and passing. What would you guys say to him that y'all think would help him out?

Well, I agree with you on this one....

In his last 9 games Stevie has averaged 4.78 TOs a game.

I want to say that it's due to the fact that it's the end of the season, and he's just out there trying to create. But, this is not the direction I wanted to see is game go. In his previous 29 games since the second half of the season began he was averaging 3.69 TOs, not great but a definite improvement over his 4.03 first half TO average. If he has 4 or more turnovers in the final game he will average 4.0 for the season, something I didn't want him to do, and something no other Rocket in history has done.

    DREAMer,
I presume that you actually watch more games than I do, so how do you suggest Francis quit turning the ball over so much?

    How about this !

    CATO....catch the DAMN ball.

That alone would lower his turnovers by 2 a game.

Truth is, if he gets one or more turnovers his TO average to the closest tenth (which is how they are displayed at NBA.COM) will be 4.0 (3.95), regardless.

    P1 S2,

I think there are two major areas for Steve to work on to reduce his turnovers.

    1. The travelling and palming calls may be reduced as the refs get used to his moves, and/or the league relaxes the strictness of the rule. But, either way he does need to adjust how he dribbles, which can only come with practice and repetition.

    2. He gets way out of control much too often. I counted about four times in this past game alone where he ended up on the floor without the defender even touching him from spaztic dribbling.

    --------------------------------------

I'm not exactly sure how to get Stevie to reduce the TOs, but I sure hope he works on it during the offseason. The truth is he may always turn the ball over more than we'd like, but if he can get it down to a respectable level, and at the same time improve other parts of his game, then I could learn to deal with it.

I think Francis' assist numbers will rocket up to 8 or even 9 a game, if we ever got an 18-20 point big man on our team, or at least 16.

Watching the games, look at how many assists he loses, when Cato/KT mishandle the pass, giving him a turnover instead. Every game, I see KT get an easy shot, and either flat out miss it, or get fouled and miss it, either way no assist. Right now, I see the majority of his assists coming from outside shots, like kickouts to Shandon, Cuttino, Walt, etc.

Payton has Baker (ok, so Baker's having a bad year, but still getting over 16 a game), Kidd had Googs/RR/Robinson, JDubb has Webber. The Rockets will not be able to take it to the next level (2nd round) without a big man who can score at high levels, and poses a legit threat down low.
